WHAT YOU'LL DO

Platform Software Engineers (PSWEs) focus on building and automating infrastructure services to provide a seamless developer experience. They work closely with infrastructure engineers and application developers to design scalable, automated solutions that empower product engineers to deliver features faster while maintaining operational excellence. PSWEs aim to reduce toil and enhance developer productivity by abstracting infrastructure complexities into reliable, intuitive services.

Responsibilities:

  1. Service Development and Automation:

    Design, develop, and maintain internal Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) platforms that simplify infrastructure provisioning and management
    • Create scalable, API-driven services to automate tasks like database provisioning, message queue management, and Kubernetes resource orchestration
    • Build centralized tools and automation frameworks to reduce operational overhead for application teams
  2. Collaboration with Engineering Teams:

    • Partner with teams to define and implement IaaS products, enabling faster build and deployment cycles
    • Provide consultation to application engineers on leveraging platform services effectively
    • Ensure platform services align with NERV's vision for seamless developer operations
  3. Operational Excellence:

    • Integrate monitoring and alerting strategies into the development lifecycle, focusing on identifying trends and potential issues before they impact users
    • Participate in on-call rotations, focusing on incident response, root cause analysis, and proactive system improvements
    • Champion best practices in observability and reliability, ensuring that platform services are designed with operational excellence in mind from the outset
  4. Innovation and Continuous Improvement:

    • Experiment with and integrate cutting-edge technologies to enhance the platform’s capabilities
    • Maintain an iterative approach to improving platform services, ensuring they remain aligned with user needs

WHO YOU ARE

Experience:

  • 5+ years in software engineering, with a focus on large-scale systems
  • Proven expertise in building API-driven infrastructure services and tools
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, CI/CD systems, and observability practices

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of system design principles, distributed systems, and cloud-native architecture
  • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used for platform development (e.g., Python, Go, Ruby)
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a dynamic environment

Mindset:

  • Proactive problem-solver with a passion for automation and reducing toil
  • Collaborative and communicative, with a strong focus on documenting solutions for team efficiency
  • Committed to improving developer experience and operational excellence

For candidates based in the United States, the pay range for this position at the start of employment is expected to be between $129,600 and $210,600/per year with an expected On Target Earnings (OTE) between $144,000 and $234,000/per year (including bonus or commission). Your exact offer may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to cash compensation, Braze offers full- and part- time employees a comprehensive Total Rewards package that includes equity grants of restricted stock (RSUs) so that all Braze employees own a piece of our company.
