Box is looking for visionary technical leaders for our engineering teams in Warsaw, who will lead, inspire, and mentor engineers, while bridging communication between the US and Poland engineering hubs, and fostering a positive and collaborative work environment. The engineering manager role at Box involves spearheading significant technology initiatives, overseeing the entire lifecycle of projects across multiple architectural layers. Your knowledge can be vital for improving Box product and solving exciting challenges related to Cloud Content Management.

You will be part of the Reliability organization, where you will have the unique opportunity to bring your expertise during the exciting phase of Box in bringing AI to content cloud. You will enjoy flexing your leadership, software engineering and technical muscles and get to work with cutting-edge technologies that will define the future of Box. You will have visibility and impact across all the Engineering and extended leadership team.

Who you are

• 3+ years of experience managing software engineering teams and delivering site reliability (SRE) on a global scale.
• You have experience building, running distributed systems in production at scale and have managed systems with software.
• You are a hands-on engineering leader with experience on higher level coding languages (e.g Python, Go).
• Experience translating business needs into engineering opportunities focused on scale, performance, reliability, efficiency, and product velocity.
• Experience growing and managing diverse, talented, global engineering teams.
• Experience building strong relationships within and across peer teams that foster deep engagement and delivering key technologies.
• You are passionate about solving complex problems with software.
• Experience in system design and able to help the team in designing complex systems/frameworks.
• You act like an owner and strive to do work you're proud of, both technically and in your team interactions.
• You are able to inspire other people to work with you, and you enjoy mentoring and coaching others.
• Experience working with distributed teams across different time zones is advantageous.
• Proficient in English

Box lives its values, with community and in-person collaboration being a core part of our culture. Boxers are expected to work from their assigned office a minimum of 2 days per week, with a focus on Tuesdays and Thursdays. What you’ll do:

• Lead a team of experienced engineers in Poland, defining the team's roadmap and execution plans while taking ownership of project delivery.
• Develop team members through 1:1s, career planning, coaching discussions, and hiring to cultivate a collaborative and inclusive culture focused on customer impact.
• Organize stand-ups, sprint planning, technical discussions, and manage sprint task statuses while collaborating with product teams to scope new features and provide project estimates.
• Work with cross-functional partners and stakeholders to ensure significant business impact and represent Box internally and externally.
• Scale your team through mentorship while building a culture that reflects values of accountability, collaboration, and passion. Drive the roadmap alongside Reliability Engineering leadership, Product Managers, and service owners by connecting multiple perspectives in this key role.
• Participate in deep technical design discussions within your team and across partner teams to ensure we build effective solutions.
• Build software, frameworks, and tools for reliable operations of Box's services across multiple cloud environments while continuously developing automations for better platform reliability/availability.
• Collaborate with other engineers both within the team and cross-functionally to uphold solid engineering principles.
• Be detail-oriented and curious; when faced with challenges, investigate thoroughly to understand how things work.
• Effectively prioritize tasks, manage time well, and communicate effortlessly across various mediums—email, Slack, phone or face-to-face—with audiences ranging from senior engineers to vice presidents.
