About the role:
Our growing Electronic Medical Equipment group is searching for additional, strong leadership to help ensure continued success in delivering high quality products across Boston Scientific. As a Principal R&D Software Engineer, you'll be at the heart of that mission, developing best-in-class capital systems and software/firmware as part of our comprehensive portfolio of solutions. Work Mode
This role follows an Onsite work model, requiring employees to be in our local office at least four days per week.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading software architecture, implementation, integration, and testing for complex, connected electronic medical equipment (“capital”) systems and systems-of-systems.
- Establishing best-practices for medical device software development and recruitment within the growing business franchise.
- Producing maintainable code and technical documentation.
- Collaborating with cross-functional and cross-divisional multi-national experts in a wide range of fields to solve complex engineering and business challenges.
- Translating highly technical results into easily understood recommendations that will influence senior stakeholders.
- Managing third party designers, vendors, and contractors to deliver high quality engineering solutions at an accelerated pace.
Required qualifications:
- 10+ years of software development experience in senior development and lead roles.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related discipline (such as Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, of Physics).
- Experience with bare metal and Real Time Operating Systems (e.g. Micrium, μC/OS, FreeRTOS, or similar).
- Experience with developing software/firmware for a variety of microcontrollers using embedded C/C++ and assembly language
- Experience working within an Agile software development environment.
- Implemented communication protocols, interfaced with devices using various protocols UART, I2C, SPI, BLE.
- Good understanding of debugging of Hardware and Software.
- Experienced with initialization of bus and clock interfaces for different GPIOs as required using datasheets and user manuals.
- Knowledge of reading schematic diagrams, bringing up board and boot loader to evaluate and analyze design.
- Comfortable using test tools like Function Generators, Spectrum Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, Logic Analyzers.
- Good working experience with source management tools such as GIT/GitHub, Sourcetree, Bitbucket, SVN, AccuRev, Jira.
- Experience in Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) software practice in a regulated environment.
- Experience working within a quality system, IEC and ISO standards relevant to medical device software lifecycle and risk management (i.e. IEC 62304).
- Passion for understanding and solving problems for end users, with an ability to translate into software requirements, design, and test specifications.
- Passion for developing talent, mentoring, and building high-performance teams.
- Track record of strong cross-functional collaboration, influence without authority, and project management enabling highly effective project teams.
- Proven self-starter who runs towards critical issues, ambiguous requirements, or loosely defined challenges with a demonstrated ability to rally teams to achieve business results.
- Comfortable debugging complex integrated systems spanning hardware, embedded and application software in medical devices.
- Demonstrated history of learning new platforms and development environments to best meet project needs.
