Job Description Qualifications:

The Boeing Space & Launch Division's Satellite Operations & Ground Systems (SOGS) organization is seeking a System Engineer to help in the development of our nation’s next generation of satellite ground systems. This position is for a systems engineer who enjoy being leaders; offering the opportunity to provide overall direction for major sections of our software development staff and programs.

The successful candidate will be shaping the future development of cutting edge technology in an agile environment with multiple long term projects needing support. We seek candidates who have advanced skills in software systems engineering with domain experience in satellite ground systems and satellite operations.

The program is using Models Based System Engineering (MBSE) for requirements definition and design.  Satellite and Ground Segment requirements and design is performed through Use Cases, Context Diagrams, and Activity Diagrams.  Boeing design standards and processes assure traceability, complete end to end system verification, day in the life system validation, configuration management and change control.  We develop and deliver first time quality systems that are operable and maintainable. This position is located in El Segundo CA, Mesa AZ, Leesburg VA, or Colorado Springs CO.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify complex lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions.
  • Evaluates customer/operational needs to define and coordinate system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces.
  • Performs various analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture. Performs analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success.
  • Develops, maintains and identifies improvements for the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes.
  • Resolves cross-functional technical issues.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.  An interim and/or final U.S. TS/SCI -SSBI Clearance Post-Start is required.

Special Program Access or other Government Access Requirements are mandatory for this position.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • 5 Years experience in systems engineering (i.e. system or software requirements, development, and/or test)
  • 5 Years experience in all aspects of requirements management including requirements definition, traceability, testing, qualification and customer acceptance.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience with satellite ground systems and the satellite operations problem space
  • Experience with Model Based Engineering through-out the development lifecycle
  • Experience collaborating with developers using agile development tools and practices
  • Experience using Atlassian Jira and Confluence
  • 8 or more years of experience in software development, including designing, developing, testing, and fielding software systems.
  • Strong proficiency in one or more object-oriented programming languages (such as Java, C++ or C#)
  • Experience with cloud-based software architectures
  • Experience developing astrodynamics applications with one or more of the following toolkits: STK, FreeFlyer, GMAT, and/or Orekit

Typical Education & Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Relocation:

Relocation assistance is not a negotiable benefit for this position. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

Additional Information:

Ability to travel a 3-5 days/month to El Segundo, CA, Kent, WA, Mesa, AZ, Leesburg, VA or Washington DC as needed.

Summary pay range Colorado Springs CO: $119,850– $162,150

Summary pay range El Segundo CA: $128,350– $173,650

Summary pay range Leesburg VA: $128,350– $173,650

Summary pay range Mesa AZ: $19,850– $162,150
