BR&T IVS Hypersonics and High-speed vehicle team needs Mid-Level High Speed Vehicle and Hot Structures Thermal Analysis Engineer to perform vehicle environment analysis, proposal support, and requirements development for research and contract programs in Huntington Beach, CA.

This group develops, integrates, and transitions advanced structural architectures and design concepts. We also advance the state of the art in methods and tools for structural analysis. We work across Boeing's product life cycle and develop technologies for commercial aircraft, military aircraft, rotorcraft, space vehicles, UAVs, and advanced vehicle prototypes.

The successful candidate should have competencies in problem solving abilities, analytical skills, demonstrated design and systems thinking, and a willingness to learn and work with new technologies.  In addition, a candidate should be interested or familiar with Model-Based Systems engineering and proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Leads and/or Ssupports the thermal design and analysis activities of the high-speed vehicle and hot structures effort

  • Establishes and documents environmental/thermal engineering and system level design requirements (e.g. performance, environment, functionality, life, envelope, integration

  • development and documentation of mechanical and fluid system and thermal environment requirements to establish the system design

  • Leads and/or supports the development of high-speed vehicle thermal design and analysis from customer requirements

  • Supports the development, maintenance or modification of system, component and installation designs/proposals to provide design documentation to downstream groups

  • Performs and documents analyses of environmental/thermal components and systems using models and tools to validate or assess the design to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications

  • Contributes to supplier development, test and production activities and directs the supplier to optimize integration and achieve program goals

  • Evaluates hypersonic vehicle and other high-speed systems designs and performs trade studies for performance, extreme environments (hot/cold), and concepts for future environmental/thermal control

  • Provides guidance to entry level employees to experience the full system cycle from development, build, test, and first flight

  • Supports the capture of government contracted research and development (CRAD) and global leverage opportunities

  • Works under general to minimal direction

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • Experience with aerothermal analysis tools development and integration

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience in vehicle-level thermal management system architecture development for high-speed platforms

  • Experience in capture of government Contracted Research & Development (CRAD)

  • Experience using analytical, collaboration, communication, and organizational skills

  • Experience leading engineering teams

Typical Education/Experience: 

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary pay range: $102,000 - $138,000
