Job Description Qualifications:

Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) Space Launch System (SLS) is seeking a motivated and experienced Hardware/Software Integration (HSI) Integration & Test (I&T) Manager to be responsible for engineering, integration, test, and verification of the SLS rocket stages from New Orleans, LA or Cape Canaveral, FL.  This position will manage employees performing activities within multiple Engineering disciplines. The focus will be to develop and execute project and process plans, implement policies and procedures, and set operational goals. The SLS HSI Integration & Test Manager will acquire resources for projects and processes, provide technical management of those teams, lead process improvements, and develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners, and direct reports.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate development of all Hardware/Software Integration (HSI) Mission Systems (MS) Avionics & Software (AV&SW) subsystem engineering artifacts, scripts and tools supporting analytical integration, test planning and execution activities for both the Core Stage (CS) configurations and Exploration Upper Stage (EUS) configurations of the SLS rocket stages from design conception to delivery to the NASA customer and post-delivery Flight Software test support, data analysis and requirements validation during NASA-led Formal test events.
  • Serve as Liaison POC between several Boeing & NASA organizations to execute movement of current lab assets amongst six different labs supporting program critical path test events, as well as leading future efforts for future mission lab environment build up, to include hardware, software and interface requirement definitions, documentation, procurement processes, installation, and functional checkout to support program test schedules.
  • Support HSI Senior Manager with leadership of the HSI-MS Power Subsystem team conducting integration, analysis, & test of that CS & EUS power technical area as well as concept development, requirements definition, obsolescence planning, functional analysis/subsystem integration, trade studies and risk management.
  • Lead multi-location teams distributed across Huntsville Marshall Space Flight Center, New Orleans Michoud Assembly Facility and Cape Canaveral Kennedy Space Center NASA sites focused on shipside vehicle Production support through functional testing, vehicle transport and launch.
  • Track and implement significant change activity in response to evolving mission requirements over the life of the SLS Artemis program, including Core-Stage 2+, Exploration Upper Stage (EUS) & future program design and development for varying aspects such as technical, schedule and budgetary to meet programmatic requirements and milestones.
  • Provide support to the NASA customer on post-flight analysis and engineering change informed by performance and mission objectives.
  • Manage timely, first-time-quality deliverables such as Test Lab Architecture and Cable Interconnect Diagrams and Power analyses.
  • Responsible Cost Account Manager (CAM), accountable for budget, schedule and risk associated with each of the control accounts, and for supporting the program EVM process.
  • Significant NASA customer interaction is involved in all aspects of this manager’s job responsibilities.
  • Lead Staffing initiatives to right-size the HSI-MS I&T Team in alignment with distributed EAC and approved staffing forecast.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed locations.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required.  “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee. 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • 5+ years of experience in software systems engineering, integration, and testing.
  • 5+ years of experience in technical leadership.
  • 3+ years of experience in NASA Space programs or a related Space or Defense program.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 1+ years of experience with development or integration of NASA Space Launch System (SLS) avionics systems.
  • Have a good people skill such as ability to relate to others, strong communication, patience with others, knowing how and when to show empathy.
  • Experience collaborating with other engineering disciplines, production and/or regulatory.
  • Knowledge or experience on space systems avionics design and analysis.
  • Knowledge in space systems and systems integration, qualification, test, and certification.
