Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) seeks a Chief Production Engineer to be the SLS Production and Tooling Associate Chief Engineer for our Space, Intelligence & Weapon Systems (SI&WS) division in New Orleans, Louisiana at the NASA Michoud Assembly Facility. This role supports the Space Launch System (SLS) Program by providing engineering leadership, oversight, and support to Core Stage, Exploration Upper Stage, and Tooling IPTs and partnering with Tooling Engineering to ensure the technical integrity, safety, and quality of SLS production and major tooling. You will report to the SLS Program Chief Engineer and will play a crucial role in the successful execution of SLS manufacturing operations.

Position Responsibilities:
- Directly support and partner with the Core Stage IPT, Exploration Upper Stage IPT, Tooling IPT, and Tooling Engineering leaders in the execution of SLS manufacturing operations and management of production and tooling technical and engineering constraints.
- Establish a culture of proactive technical oversight, risk management, and rapid issue resolution, providing alternative paths for issue resolution and an open dialogue on technical issues.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams across engineering, quality, and operations to ensure seamless technical integration of tooling and production processes.
- Implement comprehensive root cause and corrective action processes and discipline to address all significant technical issues within production and tooling.
- Prevent traveled technical risk and ensure that technical risks and issues are driven rapidly to closure.
- Collaborate with cross-functional and program teams to identify and address tooling and production related issues and implement corrective actions.
- Provide technical guidance and support to tooling and production teams, ensuring adherence to specifications and standards.
- Conduct regular assessments of tooling and production processes to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary changes.
- Implement and enforce engineering functional excellence in people, processes, tools, and practices.
- Sponsor and support tooling and production agenda topics at the SLS Program Engineering Review Board.
- Represent the Office of the Chief Engineer on the Tooling Control Board as a board member.
- Mentor and coach program engineering managers, technical leads, and engineers.
This position is expected to be fully onsite at the NASA Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, LA.
Domestic travel will be required up to 20% of the time depending on business needs.
This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility.
This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
- 5+ years of experience in technical leadership.
- 3+ years of experience in the aerospace industry.
- 3+ years of experience with material review board processes.
- Experienced in one or more of: (1) Production Engineering, (2) mechanical engineering design and analysis, or (3) tool design.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- Experience in project management and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Leadership training and experience. Demonstrated success in leading a team in accomplishing objectives on time and at top quality.
- Excellence in written and spoken communication calibrated appropriately to, and well received by, various technical and non-technical audiences.
Typical Education & Experience:
Level 5: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Level 6: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 20 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+15 years' related work experience, Master+18 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary pay range:
Level 5: 140,250 – 189,750.
Level 6: 164,900 – 223,100.
