Mid-Level Software Engineer – Ruby on Rails

Department: Engineering

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Dublin, Ireland, Ireland

About Bizimply

Bizimply is a workforce management platform designed to streamline operations for businesses in the hospitality, retail, and leisure industries. The Bizimply platform provides a comprehensive suite of tools that enable businesses to efficiently manage their workforce, including scheduling, time and attendance tracking, task management, HR and performance reporting. By centralising these functions in one user-friendly interface, Bizimply helps businesses save time, reduce administrative overhead, and improve overall operational efficiency.

As a Mid-Level Ruby on Rails Engineer, you will be an important part of our engineering team, building and improving the products that help businesses manage their people more effectively.

You’ll work closely with Product Managers, designers, QA and other engineers to turn product ideas and customer needs into reliable, well-designed software. You’ll have the opportunity to work across different areas of our platform, develop your technical skills and take ownership of meaningful pieces of work from development through to release.

We’re looking for someone who enjoys solving problems, writes clean and maintainable code, and is keen to continue developing their engineering skills in a collaborative and fast-moving environment.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Software Development: Build, test and maintain high-quality Ruby on Rails applications, following good engineering practices and contributing to a reliable and scalable product.
  2. Feature Development: Work with Product and Engineering colleagues to understand requirements, break problems down into manageable pieces and deliver solutions that provide real value to our customers.
  3. APIs & Integrations: Develop and maintain APIs and integrations that allow Bizimply to connect effectively with other systems and services. Contribute to improving the quality, consistency and documentation of our APIs.
  4. Quality & Testing: Write appropriate automated tests and participate in code reviews to ensure our software is reliable, maintainable and fit for production.
  5. Problem Solving: Investigate bugs, performance issues and technical problems, using a structured approach to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
  6. Collaboration: Work closely with other engineers, Product Managers, QA and designers to deliver features and improvements. Communicate clearly and contribute constructively to technical discussions.
  7. Continuous Improvement: Look for opportunities to improve our codebase, development processes and ways of working, and share ideas that can help make the team more effective.
  8. Technical Growth: Continue developing your knowledge of Ruby, Rails and the wider engineering ecosystem, while gradually taking on more technical ownership and responsibility.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Our Technical Environment

At Bizimply, you'll work across a modern SaaS technology stack, including:
  • Ruby on Rails – our core backend platform
  • React – our web frontend
  • MySQL / PostgreSQL – data storage
  • ClickHouse / BigQuery – analytics and data
  • Redis / Sidekiq – messaging and asynchronous processing
  • AWS – cloud infrastructure
  • Git-based development and CI/CD
  • Automated testing modern application monitoring and security tooling
  • Anthropic/OpenAI LLMs and API
You don't need experience with all of these technologies. What's most important is strong Ruby on Rails experience, good engineering fundamentals and a willingness to learn.

Requirements

Essential
  1. 2–5 years of professional software development experience, with solid hands-on experience building and maintaining Ruby on Rails applications in a production environment.
  2. Good understanding of object-oriented programming, software design principles and fundamentals, testing, version control and writing maintainable code.
  3. Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs and working with integrations between different systems.
  4. Good understanding of relational databases and experience working with SQL and databases such as PostgreSQL or similar.
  5. Experience writing automated tests and working with a testing framework such as RSpec.
  6. A structured approach to diagnosing technical problems and finding practical, sustainable solutions.
  7. Ability to work effectively with other engineers and cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts clearly.
  8. A proactive and curious approach to learning, with a willingness to take ownership of your work and continuously improve.
  9. Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and coding agents, which are part of our day-to-day engineering workflow.

Nice to Have
  • Experience working with React or another modern JavaScript framework.
  • Experience working with AWS or other cloud platforms.
  • Experience with background jobs, messaging systems or event-driven architectures.
  • Experience building or maintaining third-party integrations.
  • Experience with Cypress, Robot Framework or other automated testing tools.
  • Experience with mobile applications or React Native.
  • Familiarity with AI technologies, LLM integrations or MCP (Model Context Protocol).
  • Experience working in a SaaS environment.

Core Competencies

  1. Software Engineering: You write clean, maintainable and well-tested code. You understand the importance of code quality and can make sensible technical decisions within the scope of your work.
  2. Analytical & Diagnostic Thinking: You approach problems logically and systematically. You know how to investigate an issue, identify the underlying cause and determine an appropriate solution rather than simply addressing the symptoms.
  3. Ownership & Accountability: You take responsibility for the work you are delivering, communicate when you encounter challenges and see your work through from understanding the problem to production.
  4. Collaboration: You work well with others, contribute to technical discussions and are comfortable asking questions, sharing knowledge and learning from your colleagues.
  5. Learning & Growth: You are curious about technology and actively look for ways to improve your skills. You're interested in developing towards greater technical ownership and responsibility over time.

What You'll Get From the Role
