As Sr. Manager, Build Release Engineering at Bitwarden, you will lead the teams that are tasked with overseeing the Build & Release (BRE) and internal Developer Tools (DTE) functions. The BRE effort designs and champions industry standards in the building and distribution of Bitwarden products and services. The DTE effort enables the valuestream-aligned teams by providing custom tooling and integration points for improved SDLC processes. 

We’re looking for someone who can help our team grow confidently by evaluating and identifying demands of future roadmap and product delivery needs against resources, capacity and velocity of the BRE and DTE teams as well as facilitate career growth for direct reports to help meet that demand and foster professional development. You will own both teams’ processes and contribute directly to the DevOps culture of Bitwarden and our community through hands-on development, process improvements, departmental outreach, and mentoring. This person will hire for and directly manage cross-functional teams of engineers focused on enablement, automation, and delivery. This person will help secure cross-department resources, manage trade-offs for delivery, keep stakeholders accountable, meet deadlines, communicate at the executive level on project status and risk, and measure team impact and needs.

This is an all-remote team, and we are looking for someone based in the U.S.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Hire and develop our teams of BRE & DTE Engineers
  • Set and report on measurable goals and objectives for the team
  • Set weekly or daily priorities for the BRE & DTE teams and individual team members
  • With feedback from the team, leadership and external stakeholders, own the DevOps culture, process, procedures and decision support for product development and delivery
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement software and tools to help facilitate team success
  • Provide a point of technical escalation and knowledge to help resolve issues and technical hurdles the team may encounter
  • Facilitate and encourage collaboration through team meetings or other communication channels as necessary as well as conduct team-building activities
  • Report on team progress, status and roadblocks to management from the BRE & DTE lenses
  • Advocate for and on behalf of the BRE & DTE teams and the management of Bitwarden’s product, process and organization
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with direct reports to work on issues, provide and receive feedback and discuss individual professional development goals and opportunities
  • Perform semi-annual performance reviews when required
  • Perform hands on development and support when necessary
  • Actively participate in backlog grooming, planning and delivery activities
  • Become an expert and authority on the entire Bitwarden architecture, including: backend infrastructure, APIs, web app, mobile apps, browser extensions, desktop apps, and more
  • Refine and enhance the Bitwarden delivery pipelines, automation architecture, SDLC and development practices

    • Experience with Azure
    • Experience developing software
    • Proficiency using source control, specifically Git
    • Proficiency with continuous integration concepts and tools, and infrastructure as code
    • Solid knowledge of bash and/or PowerShell scripting
  • Excitement and enthusiasm for helping customers solve security and password challenges
  • A passion for documentation and sharing of knowledge
  • Zeal for learning and desire to develop yours and your peers’ skills in software development

In the United States, the starting base compensation range for this role is $150,000 - $200,000. Actual compensation may vary based on level, relevant experience, and skill set as assessed in the interview process, as well as market data by location. See our careers page for a list of benefits.
