Engineering Manager

We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Data Foundations team. You will report to the VP of Software Engineering and be responsible for leading our development and delivery of our data and services to the wider Technology team and to the Drug Discovery team. You will play an important role in helping the team support our innovative AI solutions and data services, used to develop novel drug targets and treatments for customers.

Responsibilities

• Manage a team of engineers and data scientists to deliver biomedical data and pipeline services to support scientific use cases and AI based analysis
• Lead the team in designing and developing the technical architecture for data engineering, ensuring their designs meet the requirements and allowing all teams developing their pipelines using common approaches. 
• Coordinate with other engineering teams to design and harmonise on common APIs and processes to data engineering broadly, setting standards which confirm to best engineering practices
• Mentor and coach team members in raising the bar of best practices in engineering and iteratively improving our standards
• Take responsibility for the career growth of the team members
• Work with product to implement our roadmap and proactively manage the scope of projects
• Effectively communicate progress and vision to the team and to other stakeholders and peers within the technology organisation

We are looking for:

• Experience in leading a team of engineers involved in building out data infrastructure - familiarity with a team working in the life science domain would be useful though not essential
• A proven track record of delivering projects for users, helping to drive improvements in scale and stability
• A ‘can do’ attitude who can inspire and enthuse teams to get behind a mission and approach it with commitment and energy
• A view to empower teams, setting them up for success, helping remove obstacles and manage their workload so they are able to deliver to the best of their ability
• Excellent communication skills - outstanding verbal and written communication skills and able to share thoughts with technical and non-technical colleagues
• Bold ideas and can take difficult, data driven decisions to move us forward
• Experience developing data pipelines
