Senior Regulatory Compliance Safety Engineer

Job Description:

The Senior Regulatory Compliance Engineer (Sr. RCE) is responsible for ensuring that all Belkin products meet global regulatory requirements. This role requires expertise in Safety, EMC/RF, and Energy Efficiency standards. You will serve as a consultative authority on national and international regulatory compliance, advising product design teams and collaborating cross-functionally with Engineering (ME and EE), Industrial Design, PDM, PGM, test labs, and regulatory authorities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead assigned projects and review Product Requirement Documents (PRDs) during concept and planning stages to advise on applicable regional and national standards.

• Develop Regulatory Compliance (RC) test plans; review test reports and certificates.

• Participate in weekly compliance meetings (remote or via conference call) to report on project status.

• Guide product development teams on Safety, EMC/RF, and Energy Efficiency compliance.

• Inform PDM/PGM teams of upcoming regulatory standards and updates at least 12 months in advance to allow time for implementation.

• Ensure suppliers, Contract Manufacturers (CMs), and Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs) meet domestic and international compliance requirements.

• Evaluate and interpret U.S., EU, and other international regulations to ensure product compliance and manage related risks.

• Assist in developing tools and processes that enable other RC engineers to work independently.

• Define methodologies for product test plans and validation testing for Safety, EMC/RF, Energy Efficiency, and regional certification (GMA) requirements.

• Support and participate in internal and external audits, including TCB investigations and incident analysis; define or assist in defining corrective actions.

• Lead post-incident investigations, assess risk exposure, and advise teams on corrective measures and preventive action plans.

• Support regional and sustaining RC engineers with certification of new products and maintenance of existing certifications.

• Monitor testing at third-party test and certification labs.

• Travel up to 20% may be required for lab qualifications and issue resolution.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent.

• 7+ years of experience in Safety and Energy Efficiency compliance.

• Minimum 5 years of international regulatory compliance experience, preferably within test labs or certification authorities.

• Familiarity with regulatory and regional certification (GMA) requirements for products such as wall chargers, power banks, and wireless earbuds.

• Strong understanding of global consumer electronics safety standards, especially UL/IEC 62368-1.

• Additional familiarity with standards such as UL2056, UL2054, UL1642, UL/IEC62133-2, EN50075, BS1363-1, AS/NZS3112, DOE, CEC, NRCan, etc., is preferred.

• Clear and concise technical writing skills are essential.

• Experience with local certification processes and effective communication with certification authorities.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and presentation creation.

• Ability to maintain and manage international RC standards library and related documentation, including budgets, invoices, and schedules.

• Knowledge of EMCRF, environmental, and sustainability regulations (e.g., FCC Part 15B/C, RSS-102/216, EN55032/55035, CA Prop 65, RoHS, REACH) is a plus.
