Sr. Automation Engineer – Indianola, PA

Purpose

The purpose of this position is to increase automated test capacity and capability within the Radiology NPD organization, with specific focus to be applied to Radiology CT, MRI, and Angiography products. Work assignments and responsibilities include new product development and life cycle activities within the Lab Services group. The candidate will be expected to create and own vision for automation lab, develop test cases, evaluate and/or author automation system requirements for test purposes, and understand how these systems interact with our above listed Bayer devices. The candidate will also be responsible for the taking on the lead automation engineer role to oversee all automated testing for multi-disciplined projects.

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Create, build, and maintain holistic accountability for R&D automation lab involving Robotics systems;
  • Design, develop, enhance and maintain automation systems to perform robotic driven testing on medical devices and their components/sub-systems;
  • Develop automation system requirements and verify/validate these requirements against the systems intended uses intended uses;
  • Create and maintain both automation equipment documentation and test documentation;
  • Proactively provide technical consultation, leadership, and advice to project teams on how to set up and manage test automation;
  • Support formal testing and informal troubleshooting of New Product Development (NPD) and Life Cycle Engineering (LCE) projects (as needed) with specific focus on utilizing test automation;
  • Develop new or improve existing test methods for repetitive testing devised specifically to ensure that the product meets and/or continues to meet design requirements, specifications, and regulations with focus on limiting human interaction with the systems;
  • Participate in project team(s) activities by execution of automation test protocols/dry runs and validation of automation test set-ups;
  • Develop and perform detailed risk reduction testing, as needed;
  • Support design compliance against medical device standards;
  • Lead continuous improvements and process initiatives to further develop automated test capabilities;
  • Present comfortably complex technical information to an audience of varied expertise/level for guidance, education and to influence technical direction and specific decision-making at all levels of the organization.

 

WHO YOU ARE 

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant engineering discipline with 2-4 years of applicable work experience OR Master's Degree in relevant discipline with 1-2 years of applicable work experience OR PhD relevant technical discipline with 0 years of applicable work Experience may also be acceptable with supporting academic technical experiences;
  • Demonstrated expert within a technical discipline, with knowledge across breadth of discipline and significant depth in one or more technical specialties;
  • General engineering knowledge crossing into other technical disciplines;
  • Demonstrated skill in both analysis of complex problems and synthesis of solutions;
  • Uses a blend of theoretical and experimental concepts for solutions;
  • Demonstrates excellent judgment in technical trade-offs and analyses;
  • Demonstrates proficiency with Microsoft Office tools especially MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Project, and other management tools;
  • Ability to decide, design and troubleshoot Robots, test fixtures and associated software for wide range of automation systems;
  • Experience working with automated systems in a medical device environment;
  • Thorough understanding of design controls necessary for a medical device design and development;
  • Prior working experience in an FDA regulated environment and Quality Systems Regulations with knowledge of documentation systems (i.e., Verification/Validation Protocols, SOPs) required of a business in the medical device industry;
  • Demonstrated ability in drafting test plans, test methods, test protocols, and test reports.
  • Demonstrated ability in mechanical design;
  • Working knowledge in medical device standards, FDA guidance, European regulations, etc..

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience working with different robots, automation systems, and test fixtures is desired;
  • Prior experience with different software programming packages for Robotics and automation system is desired;
  • Working knowledge of programming ABB robotic OR similar systems is desirable;
  • Prior experience in the execution tests according to the test plans and performing dry runs are desirable;
  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks, DNG, RQM, and JIRA is desirable.
