Job description
Bagira is hiring a GIS Specialist — a full-time, based in Czech Republic role. Apply directly on Bagira's careers page below.
GIS specialist
Location: Bagira Czech Republic (CZ)
Description
Bagira is a leader in the field of training and simulation systems with a track record of delivering high-end, customized, cost-effective solutions for mission readiness. Bagira’s simulators are being used by hundreds of thousands of soldiers at more than 40 sites worldwide.
We are expanding our specialized engineering team responsible for creating highly realistic virtual terrains and cities. We work with real-world geospatial data to build massive, large-scale environments covering entire countries (e.g., Netherlands, Switzerland, Israel).
Bagira is looking for a GIS Data and Map Developer to join us. Your main focus will be processing 3D and geospatial data for our virtual terrains, producing the map products used inside the simulators, and above all automating that work — building repeatable pipelines instead of doing things by hand.
What will you do?
Processing of 3D and GIS data: Prepare elevation data, aerial imagery and vector data for the virtual terrains of our simulators.
Map production: Create the map products displayed inside the simulator — and printed ones. The same maps are produced as classic paper maps used for orientation and navigation outside the simulator, so they have to hold up in print, not just on screen.
Automation: Build repeatable pipelines instead of manual, one-off work. This is where most of the interesting work is.
Quality control: Check the outputs and track down errors in the data.
Team collaboration: Work closely with other teams — simulation engine programmers and hardware developers.

Required skills
Basic 3D knowledge: Understanding of how a 3D scene and a terrain are put together — elevation grids and their resolution, textures, levels of detail, transformations in space. You do not need to be a modeller or an artist.
Basic GIS knowledge: You do not need to know specific tools, but you should know what vector and raster data are and that map data has structure and rules.
Coordinate systems: A solid grasp of projections, UTM zones and EPSG codes. You should be able to tell why two datasets do not line up — this is the source of most silent errors in this field.
A feel for data and data formats: The ability to open an unfamiliar format, work out what is inside, and recognise when the data is wrong. Data types, precision, units, file sizes.
Willingness to learn and invent your own methods: Honestly the most important item on this list. You will learn the specific tools here. What cannot be taught is the appetite to take on a problem nobody has a ready recipe for.

Nice to have experience
Working with AI: We use it daily as part of development. Anyone who can divide the work with it — and verify what comes back — gets much more done here.
Scripting: Most often Python. You do not need to be a programmer; it is enough that you are not afraid to write a small tool instead of doing the same thing by hand for the third time.
GIS or 3D software: Experience with QGIS, Global Mapper or any 3D package.
Map technologies: Awareness of OpenStreetMap, map tiles and map styles.

Not required
Programming in C or C++
A cartography degree
Previous experience with game engines or simulators

Personal profile
We are looking for someone curious and precise, who enjoys understanding how data is put together and is not satisfied until the result demonstrably holds up. Most errors in this field are silent — a map renders, looks convincing, and yet a lake is missing or an entire island has shifted. We therefore value the ability to verify your own work as highly as the ability to produce it.
The role sits between data work, 3D and development. A junior with a grounding in 3D and GIS and an appetite to learn is welcome; a narrow specialist with no interest in the rest of the chain would be bored here.
