Job Summary:

The Security Engineering Manager will serve as the leader for the organization’s security engineering team. This role is responsible for implementing and overseeing robust security solutions that protect the organization’s technology stack, including cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments. The Security Engineering Manager leads a team of skilled engineers, ensuring the seamless integration of security practices across the organization’s systems, applications, and processes. The individual in this role will collaborate with stakeholders at all levels to embed security into organizational culture and strategy, while staying ahead of emerging threats through continuous innovation and process improvement.

Principal Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Development:

  • Lead a high-performing security engineering team by recruiting, mentoring, and retaining top talent.
  • Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and expectations for team members to align with organizational security goals.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages innovation and knowledge sharing.
  • Create individual development plans to promote career growth and maintain team expertise in cutting-edge security technologies.

Security Architecture and Operations:

  • Implement security architecture for cloud environments (Azure), ensuring scalability, resiliency, and compliance.
  • Oversee the design, deployment, and management of CASB solutions to ensure secure access to cloud services and applications across the organization.
  • Oversee the deployment and management of vulnerability scanning tools to perform continuous, automated assessments of the organization’s infrastructure.
  • Oversee implementation of endpoint protection platforms, data loss prevention (DLP) systems, and encryption technologies.
  • Ensure proper configuration and continuous monitoring of Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems.

Incident Response and Threat Management:

  • Assist in the organization’s incident response efforts, ensuring rapid detection, containment, and resolution of security incidents.
  • Conduct root cause analysis post-incident and implement measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Collaborate with external threat intelligence providers to stay informed on current attack trends and tactics.

Policy, Compliance, and Risk Management:

  • Develop and enforce comprehensive security policies and standards in alignment with industry regulations such as ISO 27001, NIST CSF, SOC 2, GDPR, and CMMC.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of security controls, risk mitigation strategies, and compliance initiatives for both internal and external audits.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with DevOps, IT, and product development teams to ensure secure software development lifecycles (SDLC) and infrastructure-as-code practices.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on cybersecurity strategies, risks, and investment opportunities.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors to evaluate and integrate security technologies into the organization’s infrastructure.
  • Train and educate employees across all departments on security best practices and emerging threats.

Strategic Planning and Innovation:

  • Collaborate on a multi-year security roadmap, aligning with organizational priorities and technological advancements.
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the effectiveness of security initiatives.
  • Assist in managing the security budget, ensuring optimal allocation of resources for tools, personnel, and projects.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

Technical Mastery:

  • Extensive experience with cloud-native security tools, microservices security, and Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM).
  • Proficient in scripting and automation (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash) to streamline security processes.

Proven Leadership:

  • Demonstrated success in managing geographically distributed teams and delivering results.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution, team motivation, and fostering accountability.
  • Advanced Problem-Solving.
  • Exceptional ability to analyze complex systems and identify potential risks, vulnerabilities, and attack vectors.

Effective Communication:

  • Skilled at translating technical security concepts into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Adept at preparing and delivering presentations to internal and external stakeholders.

Certifications and Expertise:

  • Industry-recognized certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CEH, or OSCP.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of compliance standards, data privacy laws, and sector-specific regulations.

Work Experience:

  • Typically, 8+ years including 3+ years of supervisory experience.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience from which comparable knowledge and job skills can be obtained.
