Job Description

Avery Dennison Materials Group North America has formed a new team specifically dedicated to capturing growth in emerging Energy Storage market segments by leveraging relevant products, assets and capabilities spanning various divisions across the entire organization. The Energy Storage segment includes applications in battery cells and packs, electric vehicles, energy storage systems and charging stations for various market verticals such as automotive, heavy truck, marine and more.

Avery Dennison is seeking a Product Development and Technical Support Engineer to join our Applications and Technical Support (“ATS”) team for Performance Tapes North America team in Painesville, Ohio. In this role, you will collaborate across Avery Dennison’s Materials Group to support, design, develop, and ultimately commercialize new products for the dynamic Energy Storage (batteries, e-mobility) market segment.  You will also help support our business development and sales teams by providing technical expertise and solutions to customers and end users (OEMs, tiers and battery producers). This role is part of a larger team of new product development engineers led by the North American Director of R&D. Avery Denison is seeking an enterprising candidate with a propensity for solving highly technical problems and a strong desire to work with customers to understand their unique challenges.

In this important role you will be responsible for:

●      Technical support and product development of tapes and functional films for the Energy Storage segment

●      Collaborating with customers and marketing to define their product needs for new opportunities and offer technical support through their commercialization process.

●      Designing experiments to determine solution viability for the specific application. Interpreting the results of your experiment and presenting your technical recommendations directly to customers.

●      Providing process support to customers for tape laminating, die cutting, and part application.

●      Working with our commercial team to scope growth opportunities for potential new products across many industries.

●      Acting  as project leader for new product innovation and business critical development projects. You will be  responsible for all aspects of the product development process including the definition of customer requirements, adhesive development, qualification of new materials, and supporting product scale-up.

●      Partnering with multiple internal departments including (but not limited to) sales, logistics, manufacturing, quality, and other engineers/chemists in product development.

●  Assisting our manufacturing and quality teams in addressing adhesive and product related issues for customers. You will act as the key technical liaison between manufacturing, and the commercial team.

Qualifications

●      Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering or other related discipline required

●      3+ years experience in technical area with customer interaction is strongly preferred

●      Process engineering or process support experience preferred

●      Pressure sensitive tape and/or converting experience preferred

●      Ability to operate with little supervision in a complex environment

●      A strong ability to communicate across multiple functions at different levels in an organization.

●  Travel - 40%
