Platform Architect – Data Focused

Attain Talent seeks a hands-on Platform Architect to help build AirHub, a modern platform replacing eleven legacy EPA systems. You'll partner closely with our Solution Architecture Lead, serving as a deputy architect with a focus on data and migration. On our small team, you'll help turn architectural direction into working software and contribute wherever the work needs you.

This is an opportunity for Senior, Staff, or Principal Engineers ready to move into architecture. You may already be making architectural decisions without the title, or have the experience and judgment to take that next step. You'll shape designs, work through tradeoffs, and guide implementation while staying actively involved in code and delivery.

Your Impact

• Support architectural direction: work with the Solution Architecture Lead to evaluate options, make design decisions, and break complex work into deliverable increments.
• Stay close to the code: build services and integrations, review changes, troubleshoot issues, and help carry solutions into production.
• Guide data and migration work: understand legacy systems, shape data models and integration contracts, and help plan, implement, and validate migrations.
• Help the team move forward: mentor engineers, work through blockers, and make tradeoffs that balance delivery, reliability, and maintainability.
• Communicate clearly: work with government partners and business stakeholders to understand needs, explain decisions, and document what others need to build and support the system.

What You Bring

• A strong record of delivering complex software and guiding technical decisions, whether as an architect or an experienced engineer ready to step into the role.
• Sound engineering judgment and current, hands-on programming experience across services, APIs, databases, and automated testing.
• The ability to connect system design with implementation, explain tradeoffs, and follow a problem through to resolution.
• Practical experience with relational databases and SQL, plus integrating systems or evolving applications with existing data; interest in taking ownership of migration challenges.
• Clear communication, collaborative problem solving, and comfort taking ownership as priorities evolve on a small team.

Our Environment

Our stack includes Node.js, TypeScript, React, PostgreSQL, Kafka, and AWS. Experience with similar technologies and willingness to learn our stack are welcome. Legacy modernization, data migration, event-driven systems, and federal project experience are useful additional strengths.
