The Principal Big Data Software Engineer is responsible for the development of high performance, distributed computing tasks using Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, NoSQL, text mining and other distributed environment technologies. Familiarity with JVM-based function languages including Scala and C++; Hadoop query languages including Pig, Hive, Scalding, Cascalog, PyCascading; along with alternative HDFS-based computing frameworks including Spark and STORM are desirable. This role will be part of our iQI Device Intelligent Data & AI team under Enterprise Data Technology Group in Chief Data Office.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

• Uses Big Data programming languages and technology, writes code, completes programming and documentation, and performs testing and debugging of applications.

• Analyzes, designs, programs, debugs and modifies software enhancements and/or new products used in distributed, large scale analytics and visualization solutions.

• Interacts with data scientists and industry experts to understand how data needs to be converted, loaded and presented.

• Works in a highly agile environment.

Qualifications:

• Preferred Bachelors of Science in Computer Science, Math or Scientific Computing preferred.

• Requires 8-10 years of related experience.

• Expertise on building software projects written in Java, Scala, Python, and major programming languages.

• Hands on skills and 5+ years’ experience on managing library dependencies with build tools such as Maven, SBT and Gradle.

• Deep understanding of the DevOPS process. Familiarity on pipeline tools such as Jenkins and Azure DevOps. Familiarity on composing pipelines and configurations as code.

• Expertise and 3+ years’ experience on source code version control and software repository management tools such as GitLab, GitHub, Azure DevOps, JFrog and Nexus etc.

• Good knowledge and hands-on experience on Azure, Databricks or other on-cloud software development practice.

• Solid software programming and debugging skills to analyze root causes of software building issues among several projects and dozens of software modules.

• Strong communication skills to coordinate contributions and releases with multiple developers and project managers.

• Requires Daily Office Presence (3-5 days a week) at the listed location. No relocation assistance is provided.

Our Principal Big Data Software Engineering earns between $158,200.00-$237,400.00 USD Annual, Not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
