Description

Astronomer designed Astro, a modern data orchestration platform, powered by Apache Airflow™. Astro enables companies to place Apache Airflow at the core of their data operations, providing ease of use, scalability, and enterprise-grade security, to ensure the reliable delivery of mission-critical data pipelines.

We’re a globally-distributed and rapidly growing venture-backed team of learners, innovators and collaborators. Our mission is to build an Enterprise-grade product that makes it easy for data teams at Fortune 500’s and startups alike to adopt Apache Airflow. As a member of our team, you will be at the forefront of the industry as we strive to deliver the world's data.

Your background may be unconventional; as long as you have the essential qualifications, we encourage you to apply. While having "bonus" qualifications makes for a strong candidate, Astronomer values diverse experiences. Many of us at Astronomer haven't followed traditional career paths, and we welcome it if yours hasn't either.

About the job

You will be part of Astronomer’s open-source engineering team, focusing on developing open-source libraries that efficiently integrate other technologies into Apache Airflow. You will be a pivotal contributor to the Astronomer Open Source team and help ensure that engineering best practices are the core of each deliverable.

Your focus will be on identifying, designing, developing, and implementing Open-Source software that improves the experience of data practitioners using Airflow in conjunction with other data technologies.

You will have the chance to engage with Astronomer customers and developers from the Apache Airflow project, a thriving open-source community with thousands of global contributors.

What You Get To Do

  • Develop and improve the integration of Apache Airflow with other technologies, in particular how we write DAGs (Direct Acyclic Graphs)

  • Work closely with team members to achieve project goals and deliver high-quality results.

  • Support other engineers to expose these libraries within Astro Cloud

  • Liaise with customers, troubleshooting issues and providing solutions

  • Contribute to the Airflow Ecosystem and steward the open-source community

  • Promote the developed open-source projects at conferences and events

What You Bring To The Role

  • Proven experience as a Python developer, with a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience

  • Good at writing unit tests, and an appreciation of different forms of automated testing

  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and explore new ideas

  • Experience in troubleshooting complex issues

  • Strong knowledge of building scalable and distributed systems

  • A proactive approach to learning and staying updated with industry trends

  • Recognize the importance of cooperation and encourage it by being a good listener, sharing information, and offering support and feedback

  • Communication skills that allow you to know what to say and, more importantly, how to say it in various mediums (Github, Slack, Zoom, email, pair programming sessions)

Bonus points if you have:

  • Experience with Apache Airflow in production environments

  • Worked with Databricks, Snowflake, dbt, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, ETL Technologies, or other analytics solutions

  • Contributions to Open Source projects

  • Knowledge of Kubernetes & Docker

  • Built and maintained CI/CD pipelines
