Strategic Project Manager Oncology, US Medical Affairs
A Project Manager leads projects from initiation to implementation within agreed constraints of time, budget, and quality. The role typically has responsibility for the Franchise team and budget. They shape solutions and ensure that business requirements are effectively captured and have a good knowledge of different supplier solutions that could support the project. They are responsible for risk management, benefits & value management, and as appropriate, resolve or call out identified risks and issues. A Project Manager helps ensure that the Franchise teams adopt quality and compliance standards, policies, and procedures, and supports project assurance activities while working to execute on team deliverables.
The Strategic Project Manager (SPM) will drive planning, coordination, and completion of diverse projects and activities within the US Oncology Medical Affairs team. In this role, you will work collaboratively with Medical Affairs leaders and team members to ensure project goals and objectives are achieved.
This role reports directly to the Oncology Project Management Lead for US Oncology Medical Affairs but works closely and remains aligned to the USMA Franchise/Functional Head for franchise/functional projects. The ideal candidate will proactively leverage opportunities and manage risks while facilitating processes within the team to ensure the timely, effective, and on-budget management and delivery of projects/activities for the US Oncology Medical Affairs team.
The post holder will work in a matrix environment with other medical network colleagues including the Breast Franchise Head and Breast Medical Heads as well as Global, Commercial, and other cross-functional colleagues.
Accountabilities
- Maintain, promote, and influence project plans via project management tools.
- Manage the timelines for business planning cycles, specifically integrated Medical Affairs Plan.
- Support Franchise Head and Finance Business Planning Lead with budget management and partner with commercial business partners for franchise level coordination.
- Provide operational leadership to the Medical Affairs Franchise team in the successful delivery of assigned projects within the Franchise and in collaboration with cross-functional teams across the OBU.
- Facilitate meetings, provide strategic input into meeting agendas, drive and record key decisions and actions, manage follow up of action items from those meetings.
- Work with franchise team and other SPMs to simplify ways of working and establish best practices to improve operations and solve problems.
- Develop and maintain project documentation, tracking tools, and presentations.
- Communicate and call out project issues, challenges, and risks to project team leads and leadership in a timely manner.
Essential Skills/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree (B.S. or B.A.)
- 3-5 years of experience working in the pharmaceutical (or similar) industry as a project manager
- Extensive project management experience.
- Experience with budget and finance planning.
Desirable Skills/Experience
- PMP Certification
- Medical Affairs and/or Oncology experience is a plus.
- Experience with Six Sigma or Agile Project Management

The annual base pay for this position ranges from $117,568.80 - $176,353.20. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program. Benefits offered include a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
