 We are currently recruiting for an internship located at our office in Wilton, CT.

Role and responsibilities

Wilton Manufacturing Engineering’s PE Specialist and Support Services Tooling Team has a 2025 summer internship position for undergraduate and graduate students of Mechanical Engineering studies. There is a high preference for candidates with a background/experience in manufacturing, and an interest in mechanical tooling design.

The main responsibility of the Mechanical Engineering Intern is to assist in the full end-to-end development of tools to be used within the Wilton Factory Manufacturing Plant. The development and implementation of these tools are crucial to industrializing existing production processes and helping the work centers run more efficiently.

  • Interfacing with production process owners (engineers and technicians) to define scope and requirements
  • Designing tools that meet said requirements and defend design decisions in cross-sector review meetings
  • Document requirements, design concepts and any decisions in a formal design dossier
  • Create technical product documentation (TPD), using coordinate dimensioning and/or GD&T
  • Work in the clean room to assemble the new tooling (with support of operations technicians)
  • Defining how to validate the function of each tool, if special testing is required
  • Executing this testing, documenting results, and updating design if necessary
  • Document how the tools are to be assembled, and work with process engineers and technicians to define training methods on how to use them
  • Troubleshooting any issues with the functions of the various tools

Education and experience

  • Pursuing Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Master’s degree a plus
  • Working knowledge of one of the 3D CAD software (Siemens NX preferred)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications

Skills

  • Strong understanding of basic Mechanical Engineering principles and test methods
  • Exposure to static and kinematic designs, or understanding of theory
  • Experience with 3D CAD software (Siemens NX preferred)
  • Familiar with the use of 3D printing and design for printing
  • Competent with basic measurement equipment such as Vernier Calipers, Micrometers, etc
  • Understanding of GD&T and coordinate dimensioning (ISO or ASME)
  • Understanding of material properties for different applications
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis, design of experiment, etc
  • Task oriented and self-directed, able to stick to timelines and deliver results
  • Strong communication skills and technical writing abilities

Other information

This position is located on-site in Wilton, CT .  It requires onsite presence to attend in-person work-related events, training courses and meetings and to further ensure teamwork, collaboration, and innovation.

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Working around lasers; working with ladders; working on platforms; and working around chemicals.
  • The employee is occasionally required to move around the campus.
  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. 
  • May require travel dependent on company needs.
