Position Summary
The Senior Engineer II, Mechanical Engineering is responsible for the design, development, validation, and continuous improvement of mechanical subsystems used in advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment. This role works closely with systems, process, electrical, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to deliver robust, high-performance solutions that meet product, reliability, and manufacturability requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical subsystems for advanced packaging semiconductor tools, including wafer handling, vacuum chambers, process modules, thermal control assemblies, robotics, and structural systems.
- Create detailed mechanical designs, 3D models, engineering drawings, and specifications using CAD tools.
- Perform engineering analysis including tolerance stack-up, structural, thermal, vibration, and fluid flow assessments.
- Support subsystem requirements definition and translate system-level requirements into mechanical design solutions.
- Collaborate with systems, electrical, controls, and process engineering teams.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute technical input.
- Develop and execute test plans to verify performance and reliability.
- Investigate and resolve technical issues through root cause analysis.
- Drive DFM, DFA, and cost optimization initiatives.
- Support NPI, prototype builds, validation, and manufacturing transfer.
- Work with suppliers and manufacturing partners.
- Contribute to FMEA, risk assessments, and reliability improvement efforts.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- 5-8 years of mechanical engineering experience in semiconductor equipment, automation, robotics, or precision equipment.
- Strong mechanical design and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, or NX.
- Knowledge of motion systems, actuators, bearings, and structural design.
- Understanding of vacuum systems, thermal management, or contamination control.
- Familiarity with DFM, DFA, and FMEA.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience with semiconductor processing equipment.
- Familiarity with SEMI standards and semiconductor equipment safety requirements.
- Experience with FEA or CFD tools.
- Experience supporting manufacturing scale-up and NPI.
