Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a highly motivated Lead Physical Design Engineer to join our growing Power Delivery team. This individual will provide technical leadership for the planning, design, and execution of medium- and high-voltage substation projects ranging from 12 kV through 765kV. The successful candidate will serve as the primary design lead, overseeing multidisciplinary design teams, interfacing directly with clients, and ensuring the successful delivery of substation engineering projects from conceptual design through construction support.

In this role, you will be responsible for leading physical design activities including substation layouts, equipment arrangements, grounding, raceways, foundations, control houses, and associated civil and structural interfaces for Flexible AC Systems, AIS and GIS substations, and transmission and distribution. You will serve as a trusted advisor to clients, provide technical guidance to project teams, and drive quality, schedule, and budget performance throughout project execution.

Role accountabilities:

Project Leadership & Client Management

· Serve as the primary technical point of contact for utility, renewable energy, industrial, transportation, and data center clients

· Engage in client meetings, design review sessions, and technical workshops

· Respond to client questions and technical inquiries throughout all phases of project execution

· Develop and maintain strong client relationships while identifying opportunities for additional services

· Support proposal development, scope definition, resource planning, and project execution strategies

· Provide technical oversight to ensure project commitments related to scope, schedule, budget, and quality are achieved

Physical Substation Design Leadership

· Lead the development of physical designs for new and existing substations ranging from medium voltage through EHV projects

· Direct preparation of substation layouts, equipment plans, elevations, sections, grounding plans, conduit and cable routing plans, control house layouts, and construction packages

· Coordinate with protection and controls, civil, structural, geotechnical, transmission, and telecommunications disciplines

· Provide technical direction and quality reviews for engineering deliverables and ensure compliance

Qualifications & Experience:

· Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution

· Professional Engineer (PE) license required

· 12+ years of experience in power delivery engineering with substantial substation physical design experience

· Proven experience leading medium- and high-voltage substation projects, strong knowledge of utility and industrial substation design practices

· Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams

· Demonstrated ability to interact directly with clients and lead technical discussions

We offer nine paid holidays and 20 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $136,400 - $204,600.

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
