Join our team as a clinical coding annotator and play a role in the development of our models. Your expertise in data labeling and annotation will be essential in ensuring the accuracy and effectiveness of Apixio’s solutions. Working closely with our data scientists, you will be responsible for labeling and annotating large datasets, ensuring that our models are trained on high-quality data. You will also be responsible for identifying and resolving any data quality issues, ensuring that our models are robust and reliable. The clinical coding annotator will also possess the coding skills and sufficient experience to validate coding vendor labels and generated predictions by demonstrating mastery of the coding guidelines, coding clinics, clinical documentation and technical experience.

This is a full time, contract role. The hourly rate will be between $45-$50 per hour.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• One or more of the following current certifications: 
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC)
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) by American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
• Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC)  by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC)
• Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) by The Association of Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialists (ACDIS)
• Certified Documentation Integrity Practitioner (CDIP) by American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) by American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
• Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) by American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
• Strong understanding of clinical documentation and ability to classify various quantitative (boundaries of notes) and qualitative (type of document) elements as well as statement of condition, supporting evidence (MEAT elements, labs, meds, provider active voice), contradictory evidence, negating evidence and other pertinent context.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain data quality standards.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Knowledge of data privacy and security regulations.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot challenges.

Bonus Experience (not required, but useful at Apixio; in order of importance)

• Proficient in data annotation tools.
• Familiarity with clinical ontologies such as LOINC, SNOMED, RxNorm, RadLex, etc.

Responsibilities

• Annotate and label various types of data according to project guidelines and specifications.
• Review annotated data for accuracy and completeness, making adjustments as needed.
• Work collaboratively with data scientists to ensure high-quality annotated data for machine learning models.
• Provide subject-matter expertise on clinical documentation to various stakeholders.
• Maintain organized and detailed records of annotated data and any changes made during the annotation process.
• Communicate any issues or challenges with data annotation to project leads in a timely and professional manner.
• Adhere to project deadlines and deliver annotated data within predetermined timelines.
• Perform QA of data science coding vendor project results
• Assist with model prediction validation

After 3 Months, You Will…

• Have a strong grasp of technologies upon which our platform is built.
• Be fully integrated into ongoing clinical annotation and Data Science coding efforts with your team.

After 1 Year, You Will…

• Be independent in understanding Data Science objectives and creating project guidelines and other user training materials.
• Be communicating with product managers and customer success managers to contribute to the success of models and the encompassing product.
• Be a subject matter expert on Apixio’s Data Science coding and clinical annotation methodologies and a source from which other teams can seek information and recommendations.
