Apify is looking for a Fullstack Engineer to join the Discovery team. Discovery owns how people and AI agents find the right tool on Apify Store: search, recommendations, and the way Actors are categorized and presented. You'll work across the stack, building the Store surfaces users see and the scoring, ranking, and quality pipelines behind them, so that every user and agent lands on the Actor they need. It's one of the highest-leverage problems at Apify: when discovery works, activation, onboarding, and retention follow.

What you'll be working on:

• Build and improve Store search: the relevance, ranking, and query understanding that gets users and AI agents to the right Actor fast.

• Integrate and experiment with recommender systems that surface the most relevant Actors for each user, context, and use case.

• Develop the Store surfaces in React/TypeScript: search results, category and listing pages, and the end-to-end "find the right Actor" experience.

• Build the backend behind discovery: scoring services, quality-evaluation pipelines, and the data processes that keep Store categorization accurate as the catalog grows.

• Run A/B experiments to measure how discovery changes move activation and retention, and let the results decide what ships.

• Work with product, design, and data to turn "help users and agents find the right tool" into concrete, measurable improvements.

Who we're looking for:

Must-haves:

• 3+ years of professional experience building fullstack web applications, with a track record of shipping and owning user-facing features. We're aiming for a senior hire, but we'll happily talk to strong mid-level engineers ready to step up.

• Strong skills developing and debugging modern single-page applications in TypeScript/React, with Node.js-based backends.

• Comfort owning a problem end-to-end across the stack, from the UI a user touches to the services, scoring, and data behind it.

• An experiment-driven mindset: you use A/B tests and metrics to decide what actually works.

• Good communication skills in English, and a collaborative approach with product, design, and data.

Nice-to-haves:

• Experience with search, ranking, or recommender systems.

• Experience with AI/LLM-powered features, evals, or building for AI agents as end users.

• A strong eye for UI and UX: you care how Apify Store feels to use, not just that it works.

• OS, code editor, and AI assistant of your choice (Claude premium with unlimited tokens, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Gemini, or JetBrains AI)

• Process: kanban, code reviews, tests, automating whatever we can, and deploying multiple times per day.

By the end of the first 3 months, we expect you to:

• Ship multiple user-facing improvements to Store or other discovery surfaces, live in production.

• Understand the discovery stack end-to-end: Store frontend, the scoring and ranking services, and the data pipelines behind them.

• Take a feature or experiment from idea through A/B test to a ship or no-ship decision.

• Build effective working relationships with product and design, and start to explore the biggest opportunities to improve how users find Actors.

By the end of the first 6 months, we expect you to:

• Own a meaningful part of the discovery experience: a search component, a recommender, or a quality and scoring pipeline.

• Ship changes that measurably improve a discovery metric (search success, activation, or retention), proven with experiments.

• Improve how Actors are categorized and ranked so both users and AI agents find the right tool more reliably.

• Contribute to LLM-based discovery features and AI-driven automations, such as AI chat search or the evals behind the ranking and quality pipelines.

• Contribute to the team's technical direction, raising the bar on code quality and velocity.
