Specialist Software Engineer
What you will do

In this vital role involves working closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to create high-quality, scalable software solutions and automating operations, monitoring system health, and responding to incidents to minimize downtime. The Specialist Software Engineer is responsible for programming components, applications, and feature sets. They will assist in developing, maintaining, and advocating for design system components across teams, ensuring quality in delivery and processes for continuous improvement. The Specialist Software Engineer will serve as a feasibility expert in working with designers to provide guidance on technical feasibility and have an understanding of accessibility and usability best standards.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Define, develop, and evolve software in a fast-paced and agile development environment using the latest software development technologies and infrastructure.
Work with design system team to add components to a growing design system library, ensuring technical feasibility, reuse, scalability and a delightful developer experience.
Work with Product Managers and Product Owners to understand product requirements and vision. Translate requirements and vision into a prioritized list of user stories and deliver within agile timelines and quality standards.
Collaborate with product owners and architects to develop multi-generation software technology plans. Plan for library end of life timelines, ensuring timely updates for stability and security.
Drive increased efficiency across teams, eliminating duplication and leveraging product and technology reuse and advocate for scalability. Support process improvements that guide development, sustaining, and support activities.
Ensure world-class quality in the development and support of products.
Understand performance parameters and assess application performance.
Apply principles of SDLC and methodologies like Lean/Agile/XP, CI, Software and Product Security, Scalability, Documentation Practices, Refactoring, and Testing Techniques.
Write code that meets standards and delivers desired functionality using the selected technology for the project.
Proactively share information across the team with the appropriate level of detail and timeliness.
What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:
Master’s degree and 4 to 6 years of experience in computer science or STEM majors and Information Systems experience OR
Bachelor’s degree and 6 to 8 years of experience in computer science or STEM majors and Information Systems experience OR
Diploma and 10 to 12 years of experience in computer science or STEM majors and Information Systems experience
Must-Have Skills:
Specializes in crafting custom frontend web applications and Web Components. Proficiency in React framework, HTML5, and CSS. Extensive experience with JavaScript and TypeScript.
Knowledge of RESTful APIs and web services. Experience with frameworks like ReactJS and visualization libraries.
Experience with processes and best practices for developing and maintaining design systems across teams.
Experience with RDBMS like MySQL, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server and version control tools like Git.
Understanding of DevOps practices and cloud platforms like AWS or Azure.
Preferred Qualifications:
Good-to-Have Skills:
Provide technical leadership across agile teams.
Work cross-functionally with other business departments to align activities and deliverables.
Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes.
Experience governing a design system across a large organization.
Ability to understand issues, present clear rationale, and influence outcomes.
Identifies misalignments with goals and makes suggestions to course correct.
Continuously measures deliverables against scheduled commitments and balances competing objectives.
Familiarity with testing frameworks like Jest and others.
Professional Certifications:
AWS Developer certification (preferred)
Any SAFe Agile certification (preferred)
Soft Skills:
Initiative to explore alternate technology and approaches to solving problems.
Skilled in breaking down problems, documenting problem statements, and estimating efforts.
Awareness of industry trends.
Ability to analyze the impact of technology choices.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Effective team-building and problem-solving abilities.
Persistence to completion, especially in the face of setbacks, and the ability to push for results through team spirit.
Ability to work effectively with global, virtual teams
