International Insurance has the twin remit of driving cost-efficient provision of our embedded insurances to Cardmembers and supporting the growth of cross-sold Fee Insurance revenue across international markets.
Risk management through reinsurance is a major contributor of revenue and marginal contribution from the insurances sold to Cardmembers and delivers significant savings on the costs of card embedded insurances.
Reporting is another key aspect of the role. Reporting will enable the business to drive decisions based on data and trends. This role will be picking up the reporting journey that aims to deliver insights that the insurance teams have not seen before!
How will you make an impact in this role?
The successful candidate will report to the Director of Programme Enablement and collaborate with other members of the central team, international market teams, enterprise partners and external third parties.
This would suit someone with a strong analytical background, that is comfortable dealing with large volumes of data and negotiating commercial terms with external third parties. Someone with experience in areas such as Finance, Controllership, Pricing, or Credit Risk could be a great fit.
This role has two core areas of responsibility: reinsurance program management and central reporting.
Reinsurance Program Management:
In the international insurance business at American Express we do not have an underwriting entity, but we do reinsure from our insurance partners, and must manage the risk of those programs in a comparable way to underwriting. Some of the key tasks are;
- Manage the end-to-end review of the claim’s performance for the international Fee reinsurance and NAC reinsurance portfolios
- Analysing claims and setting reserve rates
- Aligning findings to external actuary reports and presenting findings to board members of the reinsurance entity
- Collaborating with external partners to reconcile claims and performance
- Influence negotiation of reinsurance program financial terms
- Support the central NAC team with claims analysis, to ensure business decisions can be made effectively
Central Reporting:
The central team need to be able to view our insurance products across all markets, and this is extremely important for the sales in our fee insurance business. This is not only reinsurance related, but all commercial touchpoints of insurance.
We are making progress on a transformational reporting journey, to bring insights that will allow critical business decisions and understand what products and channels are working.
This role will need to be able to take the data that we now get and create the reports that can be used by the team and senior leaders.
It is an exciting moment to join this journey, and there will be an opportunity for you to add your own creative ideas to the reporting produced from this new dataset.
