American Express Enterprise Cloud team is looking for innovators to help us build world-class applications, Cloud platforms and infrastructure supported by integrated CICD, Observability and security capabilities.

The Engineering Director – Cloud Foundations, Enterprise Cloud will be responsible for driving design and core foundation engineering delivery for public clouds in partnership with broader Cloud and Amex teams. This role will help to advance American Express technology’s multi cloud strategy. This role will help achieving the primary outcomes of the cloud strategy including better agility, innovation, and economics for all technology teams.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Drive the design delivery of core foundation engineering for AWS and Azure adhering to Amex’s Cloud strategy
• Drive automation of core foundation engineering by partnering with Cloud Product Management, Platform and Solutions Engineering, and Ops Engineering
• Perform hands-on evaluations for various design choices, tools, and technologies
• Drive design and delivery of enterprise tools integration into Hybrid foundations like observability, ITSM, etc.  
• Define and translate vision into actionable plans; ability to see the “big picture”
• Recruit and develop a team of top-tier engineering talent to build great engineering culture and deliver high quality platforms, mentor, and coach engineers
• Monitor emerging technologies and manage relationships with technology vendors

Qualifications

•       8+ years of experience in leading Cloud and infrastructure design and implementation teams for highly available and scalable enterprise grade platforms and applications
•      Strong experience on cloud architecture, cloud fundamentals on compute, network, storage, and security to ensure high availability while ensuring the highest level of security, compliance, and visibility
•      Experience in managing multi-tenant and highly resilient services across various cloud computing models
•      Strong experience in public cloud services including AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, Infra-as-code frameworks, API Gateways, CNCF technologies, Cloud Native application architectures
•      Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Splunk, ELK, Dynatrace, Stack driver, cloud watch and cloud trail
•      Must have experience with Infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform, Cloud formation, etc. with a focus on immutable infrastructure
•      Experience in any major programming languages– Java, Javascript, Python, Go, .Net (C#)
•      Good understanding of Traffic Flow Management, to include Service Mesh concepts, with experience in Istio preferred, as well as how global load balancing works in OnPrem and Public Clouds
•      Experience in building high performance messaging and streaming platforms
•      Thorough understanding of Agile principles and processes
•      Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related science discipline or relevant experience
•      Strong communication, listening, and negotiation skills; able to convey important messages in a clear and compelling manner
