THE DEPARTMENT: In the Compute and Graphics hardware design team, we design high-technology platforms for world class products based on AMD’s Accelerated Processing Units (APUs) and Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). Our team plays a major part in architecting and shaping every graphics board offered by AMD. We design cutting-edge motherboards and graphics boards that retail around the world. As we always face more stringent demands in terms of performance and efficiency these designs are essential to maximize the performance from our silicon in an efficient and cost-effective manner. Our team also designs specialized hardware and software for studying and characterizing the power behavior of our silicon and supporting platform boards. This hardware is crucial for ensuring that data is readily available to make proper engineering decisions. THE ROLE:  The successful candidate would be responsible in aiding the continuous development and validation of AMD APU and GPU hardware electrical systems, with a primary focus on the voltage regulators and power sub-circuits.   KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:  Capturing and documenting the system level requirements of new generations of AMD motherboards and graphics boards Performing complex analysis on power circuit design implementations (mathematical modelling, simulation, etc.) Preparing schematics as well as interacting and supervising the PCB layout and mechanical teams in developing robust implementations Debugging new designs and investigating power quality with comprehensive laboratory work executed in the context of exhaustive test plans Documenting details about analyses, design, and testing methodologies Laboratory testing/debugging/bring-up of consumer electronics and internal engineering boards Regular consultation with power vendors and their Field Application Engineers on platform related issues through HW debug, documentation, and communication Supporting cross-functional validation teams (Power and Performance, System Feature Enablement, Power Management FW, SW, etc.) during the post-silicon phase of our execution Drive innovation and optimization into existing design methodologies and processes   PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:  Hands-on experience designing, validating, and debugging power electronics for PC, Consumer, Server and/or Telecom products Schematic capture / layout tools (e.g. Cadence Concept, Allegro, Altium, etc.) Electronics simulation tools (SPICE, SIMPLIS, Sigrity, PSIM, etc.) Familiarity with laboratory equipment: oscilloscope, function generator, bench power supply, etc. Excellent communication skills and the ability to write technical documentations   ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:  MASC. or PhD. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent Location:  Markham, ON, CA #LI-JE1 Benefits offered are described: AMD benefits at a glance.
