THE ROLE:

AMD is looking for an experienced Software Engineer passionate about modernizing development infrastructure and streamlining engineering workflows within the Silicon Design Engineering organization. This role will play a key part in migrating source code management (SCM) tools and processes from Perforce to GitHub, ensuring a seamless transition for engineering teams across the organization.

The successful candidate will join a team of highly talented industry specialists and collaborate closely with development, DevOps, and IT teams to deliver robust, scalable migration solutions that improve developer productivity and enable modern software engineering practices.

THE PERSON:

Passionate about software engineering, DevOps practices, and developer tooling, the ideal candidate brings strong problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate complex migration challenges. They communicate effectively and collaborate across teams, helping bridge the gap between legacy workflows and modern Git-based development practices.

The ideal candidate thrives in large-scale engineering environments, enjoys building automation and developer tooling, and is motivated by enabling engineering teams to work more efficiently.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, design, and execute the migration of repositories, history, branches, and metadata from Perforce to GitHub.

  • Develop and maintain scripts, tools, and automation pipelines to support the migration process.

  • Work with engineering teams to map existing Perforce workflows (branching strategies, integrations, triggers) to GitHub equivalents.

  • Ensure data integrity and completeness throughout the migration, including history preservation and validation.

  • Create and maintain documentation, runbooks, and best practices for the migrated environment.

  • Provide technical guidance and training to teams adopting GitHub workflows and development practices.

  • Debug and resolve migration issues, researching alternative and more efficient approaches when needed.

  • Collaborate with DevOps and infrastructure teams to integrate GitHub with CI/CD pipelines and other development tools.

  • Stay informed of SCM tooling trends, GitHub features, and industry best practices for large-scale migrations.

  • Advocate for scalable engineering workflows, automation, and continuous improvement across the software development lifecycle

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong programming background and hands-on experience in Python. Experience with additional scripting languages such as Bash, Ruby, or Perl would be beneficial.

  • Demonstrated experience designing and building automation, scripts, and tooling frameworks for complex engineering workflows. Familiarity with Perforce-to-Git migration approaches, including tools such as git-p4, Helix4Git, GitHub Enterprise Importer, or custom migration frameworks, would be beneficial.

  • Demonstrated experience with Git internals, branching models, and merge strategies, as well as GitHub administration, including GitHub Actions, repository governance, branch protection policies, and API-driven automation.

  • Experience working with GitHub Enterprise Cloud and/or GitHub Enterprise Server in large-scale enterprise environments.

  • Experience with build systems, debuggers, and profilers, along with the ability to navigate and operate effectively within large, multi-component software development environments.

  • Practical experience developing and operating software in a Linux environment.

  • Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or Ansible. Experience integrating GitHub with CI/CD pipelines and broader DevOps toolchains is advantageous.

  • Experience with software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes, source control governance, and engineering productivity tooling.

  • Demonstrated ability to align engineering, DevOps, and IT stakeholders around a shared technical approach.

  • Experience supporting geographically distributed engineering teams through major tooling or platform transitions, including adoption, enablement, and change management activities in addition to technical delivery.

  • Experience leveraging GitHub Actions, GitHub Advanced Security, Dependabot, CodeQL, or related GitHub ecosystem capabilities is highly valued.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent field.

LOCATION (FLEXIBLE):

  • Iași (Hybrid) or Brașov (Remote) or Bucharest (Remote)

  • Anywhere in Romania (Remote/Home Office)
