WHAT YOU DO AT AMD CHANGES EVERYTHING At AMD, our mission is to build great products that accelerate next-generation computing experiences—from AI and data centers, to PCs, gaming and embedded systems. Grounded in a culture of innovation and collaboration, we believe real progress comes from bold ideas, human ingenuity and a shared passion to create something extraordinary. When you join AMD, you’ll discover the real differentiator is our culture. We push the limits of innovation to solve the world’s most important challenges—striving for execution excellence, while being direct, humble, collaborative, and inclusive of diverse perspectives. Join us as we shape the future of AI and beyond. Together, we advance your career. THE ROLE: We are seeking an experienced SR Mechanical Engineer to join AMD’s Data Center Platform Engineering Group. In this role, you will lead the design and development of AMD’s next-generation server and GPU platforms, driving mechanical architecture decisions and delivering robust, manufacturable solutions that meet stringent performance, reliability, and quality goals. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams and provide technical leadership from concept through production. THE PERSON: The ideal candidate is a seasoned mechanical engineering professional with extensive expertise in product design, integration, and validation for high-performance computing hardware. You excel in solving complex technical challenges, influencing technical direction, and partnering with electrical, thermal, and manufacturing teams to optimize designs. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, guiding projects to successful outcomes while mentoring less experienced engineers. KEY REPONSIBILITIES: Own mechanical design for advanced server and GPU platforms, from architecture to production release. Develop mechanical design strategies, select materials and processes, and perform tolerance analysis to ensure manufacturability and performance. Create and review 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and documentation to industry and AMD standards. Lead prototype builds, drive mechanical design validation through simulation, structural/thermal analysis, and physical testing. Collaborate with architecture, electrical, thermal, signal integrity, and manufacturing teams to define mechanical requirements and resolve cross-disciplinary issues. Champion Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Reliability (DFR) principles for high-volume production. Participate in and lead design reviews, providing actionable feedback to improve product quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance on design methodology, tools, and best practices. Manage design changes, engineering documentation, and lessons learned for continuous improvement. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Strong mechanical or product design experience, ideally in server hardware, GPU systems, or high-performance computing environments. Expert proficiency with CAD software such as Creo, SolidWorks, or equivalent, with advanced modeling and assembly management skills. Deep understanding of mechanical materials, manufacturing processes (sheet metal, injection molding, die casting, extrusion), and industry standards. Strong background in tolerance analysis, FEA, and thermal/mechanical simulation. Proven track record of leading mechanical design projects from concept to production. Experience coordinating with suppliers and managing mechanical deliverables through development cycles. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and leadership skills. ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS: Bachelor’s or Master’s preferred in Mechanical Engineering or related field Why Join Us: Influence mechanical architecture for AMD’s flagship server and GPU products used in leading-edge data centers worldwide. Work alongside experts in mechanical, thermal, and structural design and shape the future of high-performance computing hardware. Collaborate across diverse technical teams to solve complex engineering challenges and deliver innovations at scale. Be part of a results-driven, collaborative environment where your expertise and leadership directly impact product success. This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship. #LI-BW1 Benefits offered are described: AMD benefits at a glance.
