AMD is seeking an experienced and technically distinguished Senior Manager of Graphics Research to lead a team of world-class researchers and engineers advancing the state of the art in GPU architecture, graphics algorithms, rendering technologies, and visual computing. This role sits at the intersection of cutting-edge research and product impact, requiring a leader who can drive innovative graphics research programs while developing, mentoring, and retaining exceptional talent.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the long-term graphics research strategy aligned with AMD's GPU roadmap and competitive positioning
  • Lead investigation into next-generation rendering techniques, including ray tracing, path tracing, neural rendering, rasterization, and hybrid approaches
  • Oversee research in GPU architecture graphics features including shader models, geometry pipelines, texture systems, and display technologies
  • Collaborate closely with AMD's Radeon Technologies Group (RTG) and GPU architecture teams to transition research innovations into shipping products
  • Publish and represent AMD at top-tier venues including SIGGRAPH, IEEE VR, EGSR, HPG, and industry partner conferences
  • Evaluate and integrate AI/ML-driven graphics techniques such as super resolution, denoising, and generative rendering
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, and retain top-tier graphics researchers, research engineers, and software architects
  • Provide direct management to a team of individual contributors ranging from Research Scientists to Principal Engineers
  • Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, career development planning, and goal setting aligned with AMD's engineering ladder
  • Build a psychologically safe, inclusive, and high-performance team culture that encourages creative risk-taking and rigorous execution
  • Develop clear individual growth plans and actively advocate for team members' promotions and recognition
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration with product engineering, software, driver teams, and marketing
  • Define OKRs, milestones, and research KPIs for the graphics research organization
  • Manage budget, vendor relationships, and external research grants or partnerships
  • Communicate research progress, risks, and opportunities clearly to VP and C-level stakeholders
  • Partner with AMD Fellows and Distinguished Engineers to align research with AMD's long-term technical vision

Nice to Have

  • Experience working within a semiconductor or GPU company
  • Familiarity with machine learning integration in graphics workflows
  • Experience with standards bodies such as Khronos Group or DirectX Technical Preview programs
  • Prior experience managing geographically distributed or remote-first research teams
  • Proven ability to bridge academic research and product engineering cycles
