THE ROLE: The AI GPU Software (AGS) team is looking for a Director to lead multiple teams developing GPU communication and I/O libraries for running workloads at scale as part of AMD’s Radeon Open Ecosystem (ROCm) software stack. THE PERSON: To be successful in this role, you will be a hands-on leader with strong technical skills and demonstrated success shipping software in an Agile environment. You are passionate about hiring and developing your team as well as planning and managing key engineering initiatives. You have outstanding people leadership skills to lead, motivate, and guide world class engineers working in a fast-paced, matrixed, global environment. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Define vision and strategy for your libraries. Work closely with your teams, program and product managers, and customers to develop library roadmaps Mentor your teams to consistently deliver roadmap commitments and foster innovation that advances the state of the art in GPU communication and I/O Recruit, retain, and coach individuals to scale up multiple engineering teams Create a culture where data is collected and analyzed to inform decision making throughout the software development process. This ranges from a strategic focus on establishing a capability to catalog customer use cases, and benchmarks these use cases to drive iterative software optimization cycles, to a tactical focus on building and tracking metrics to proactively improve process and efficiency Drive continuous improvement in development processes, resource allocation, and execution efficiency within your teams, and collaborate with peers across AMD to scale processes to support a rapidly growing business PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Proven success delivering complex software products through the full software product development life cycle in an Agile environment Previous experience leading multiple geographically distributed teams Experience leading software product development for HPC/AI domains where performance is paramount Familiarity with GPU software development and optimization using HIP, CUDA, or OpenCL Strong written and verbal communication skills Knowledge of distributed programming models and middleware (MPI, SHMEM, UCX), collective communications, RDMA, and storage technologies (NVMe, NVMe-oF) ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS: B.Sc. or B.Eng. degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or equivalent Advanced degrees, such as M.Sc., M.Eng., Ph.D. are preferred LOCATION: Austin, TX or remote #LI-G11 #LI-HYBRID Benefits offered are described: AMD benefits at a glance.
