Description
- Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering (EE), or a related field
- 7+ years of hands-on experience with materials and failure analysis techniques, such as X-ray, SEM, EDS, XRF, GC-MS, FTIR, Raman, Lock-in Thermography, and Thermal analysis.
- Solid knowledge and experience with a variety of materials, including plastics, glass, and metals
- Experience in failure analysis of devices related to fatigue, vibration and shock, electrical stress, environmental stress tests, as well as device and PCBA manufacturing and assembly issues
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
- Experience with the project management of technical projects
- Master's or Ph.D. in MSE, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, EE, or a related field
- 7+ years of experience in a consumer electronics industrial setting
- Experience with chemical analysis of organic and polymeric materials
- Experience with electronic test equipment (digital/analog) such as Oscilloscopes, Curve Tracers, Source Meters, Thermal Imaging, and TDRs to do board failure analysis and debug
- Demonstrated ability to uncover issues and drive failure analysis to root cause swiftly and accurately
- Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional teams and external partners
- Experience in writing final failure analysis reports and delivering presentations

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $128,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Key job responsibilities
As a Senior Failure Analysis Engineer, you will be an expert in device failure analysis, with a strong ability to identify root causes, develop effective solutions, and communicate findings to cross-functional teams. Your contributions will directly impact product quality, reliability, and timelines. Your responsibilities will include:
• Conducting rapid root cause analysis for issues arising from testing, manufacturing, and field operations
• Identifying failures at the component and system levels, and designing failure analysis plans to diagnose root causes
• Executing failure analysis plans, from strategy development to operating tools in the lab
• Writing clear and concise failure analysis reports, communicating effectively, and delivering solutions precisely to multifunctional teams
• Advising on strategies to mitigate issues and directly impacting cutting-edge designs
• Driving the Implementation of corrective actions to improve product quality, meet hardware reliability specifications, and adhere to product timelines
• Conducting materials characterization and analysis to aid innovative technology development
• Serving as a technical go-to person and a key influencer in the local failure analysis team in Sunnyvale
• Utilizing expertise in an array of failure analysis techniques, and developing new diagnostic tools/tests and more efficient analysis methods
