Sr Business Intelligence Engineer, AFT Inventory Systems

- 5+ years of SQL experience
- 5+ years of professional or military experience
- Experience programming to extract, transform and clean large (multi-TB) data sets
- Experience in scripting for automation (e.g. Python) and advanced SQL skills.
- Experience with AWS technologies
- Experience with theory and practice of information retrieval, data science, machine learning and data mining
- Experience with theory and practice of design of experiments and statistical analysis of results
- Experience working directly with business stakeholders to translate between data and business needs
- Experience managing, analyzing and communicating results to senior leadership

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $117,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $202,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) powers the physical engine at the heart of Amazon. AFT builds and operates software, hardware, and the processes that run the global network of fulfillment centers that move billions of units of inventory, employ tens of thousands of people, and ensure that customers get what they want when promised. We do this by building automated solutions to handle things that technology does well, while relying on people to handle things that humans do well.

Our inventory systems are the source of information for billions of inventory units that Amazon holds in its logistical networks, worldwide. As new inventory arrives to our networks, inventory systems enable Amazon's supply chain to route products to optimal locations based on space availability, customer demand and buying patterns. Inventory systems track the state of all items and their location, and share the availability to upstream systems, to make the items sellable on the Amazon website. When customer orders come in, inventory systems reserve specific items and track them through various stages of order fulfillment, until shipments are delivered to customers. Throughout this end-to-end inventory movement, inventory systems detect discrepancies between virtual and physical states of inventory, and enable corrections of virtual inventory state via both preventative and mitigating mechanisms. Finally, inventory systems record the costs associated with inventory transactions, so that Amazon can account for owned assets on behalf of retail owners and third party sellers, in real time.

Key job responsibilities
As a Sr Business Intelligence Engineer in Inventory, you will be challenged with building and driving analytics to identify defects in inventory systems of records. You will need to bring value insights into ambiguous business problems, and lead data-driven decision making within the org as well as with stakeholders. You will be empowered to think big, invent on behalf of our customers, make judgment calls and find solutions to hard problems. The world is changing fast and this is a dynamic role where you will be able to learn as much as you contribute.
