Software Development Manager

- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

- Lead and develop your engineering team to design, develop, deploy, and support key features of data movement tools while maintaining current system stability
- Drive architectural initiatives that enable services to operate across regions while retaining critical business functions within specific regions
- Build and nurture your team through recruiting, hiring, mentoring, and fostering a positive team culture where engineers grow and thrive
- Connect with customers and cross-functional partners regularly to gather requirements, build the team roadmap, and collaborate with product and partner teams on new projects
- Champion engineering best practices across the software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operational excellence

A day in the life
As a Software Development Manager in the Transact organization, you'll balance strategic leadership with hands-on technical engagement. Your day might include collaborating with your engineering team on architectural decisions for data movement tools, connecting with customers to understand their evolving needs, and working alongside product and partner teams to refine the roadmap. You'll mentor engineers through complex technical challenges, participate in design reviews that shape our multi-region strategy, and help navigate the trade-offs between supporting current systems and building next-generation capabilities. Your work directly impacts how Amazon's services—from Stores to Prime Video—operate reliably across the globe.
