Join Amazon's Last Mile Delivery Automation Team!

Are you interested in building the cloud and operational systems that make autonomous delivery possible? Join us in creating the platforms that connect vehicles, data, and fleet operations across Amazon's last-mile network.

The Last Mile Delivery Automation organization is bringing Level 4 autonomous delivery vehicles to Amazon Logistics (AMZL). Our team builds the data platform, fleet software, and operator tools that make a fleet of autonomous vehicles possible to run: getting very large volumes of sensor data off the vehicle and into the cloud, proving it is complete and usable, and giving the engineers and operators who run the fleet the services and applications they depend on.

We have an end-to-end version of this working today, moving petabytes from vehicles into the cloud. The next problem is scale: many more vehicles, several new operating sites, and a step change in the volume each site has to move every day.

As a Software Development Engineer on the team, you will build distributed systems and applications that span the vehicle-to-cloud path. You may work on high-volume data ingestion and cataloging, site offload and networking, data quality and access control, fleet health and diagnostics, mission and route services, Last Mile delivery integration, or the remote assistance tools operators use when a vehicle needs help.

What Makes This Role Exciting:

- Move Data at Genuinely Hard Volumes: Each operating site produces hundreds of terabytes a day. Solving that means working across network engineering, physical media, ingestion, and storage economics at the same time

- Build the Platform the Whole Program Runs On: Every mile the fleet drives depends on data landing, passing quality checks, and being available to the teams who need it. If the platform stops, the program stops

- Enable Real-World Fleet Operations: Create services and applications for vehicle readiness, diagnostics, configuration control, mission assignment, incident response, and remote assistance

- Connect Autonomy to Real Deliveries: Build the interfaces between autonomous vehicles and Amazon's live routing and Delivery Station systems, where a research fleet meets a working logistics network

- Design for Rapid Growth: Evolve working early-stage systems into reliable, scalable platforms that support more vehicles, more sites, and more users each quarter

- Own Meaningful Systems: Take services from design through implementation, deployment, operational support, and continuous improvement

Key job responsibilities
- Design, implement, and operate distributed services that receive, encrypt, ingest, store, process, catalog, and monitor high-volume vehicle sensor and operational data
- Build the data offload path from operating sites to the cloud, spanning multi-gigabit network transfer, physical media handling, and reliable resumable upload at petabyte scale
- Build data quality and access services: completeness and usability checks, failed-transfer detection, per-dataset vehicle, route, and mission context, and least-privilege access controls over sensitive data
- Develop fleet operations services and applications for vehicle inventory, health, readiness, configuration control, maintenance, and grounding
- Build mission management services covering mission creation and assignment, route review against operational constraints, and the in-vehicle and mobile applications safety drivers use
- Build interfaces between autonomous vehicle operations and Amazon's last-mile routing and Delivery Station systems
- Build remote assistance and exception management tools for blocked routes, inaccessible stops, and vehicle recovery
- Own the full software development lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and operational support
- Partner with autonomy, hardware, safety, operations, and product teams to define requirements and deliver integrated capabilities
