- 5+ years of data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, Matlab, etc.) experience
- 4+ years of data scientist experience
- Bachelor's degree
- Master's degree in a quantitative field such as statistics, mathematics, data science, business analytics, economics, finance, engineering, or computer science
- Experience with statistical models e.g. multinomial logistic regression
- Experience in data applications using large scale distributed systems (e.g., EMR, Spark, Elasticsearch, Hadoop, Pig, and Hive)
- Experience working with scientists, economists, software developers, or product managers
- Experience in forecasting analyses

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $143,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $247,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. We are looking for an expert in data science and economics to lead the development of labor supply forecasting models. As a Senior Data Scientist in PXT Finance, you will leverage state-of-the-art time series and survival models to predict workforce behavior for financial planning. You will also use big data frameworks and causal inference techniques to extract market insights from terabyte-scale datasets.

The ideal candidate is comfortable owning model development and validation on a cross-functional team. You are an excellent communicator and are prepared to use domain knowledge and data insights to advocate for product decisions. You value diverse perspectives and collaborate closely with applied scientists, software engineers, product managers and finance managers.


Key job responsibilities
- Lead the development of forecasting and survival models to predict labor supply dynamics.
- Develop rigorous selection and validation protocols to identify models for production deployment.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate forecasting solutions into Amazon’s cost planning processes.
- Leverage big data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark to ingest high volume headcount data into analytics workflows.
- Engage with customers to determine if forecasts are meeting the needs of Amazon financial analysts, finance managers, and leaders.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in machine learning-based forecasting and survival analysis, and explore opportunities to introduce new techniques into Amazon’s financial planning processes.

As a Data Scientist in PXT Finance you will focus on data analysis and model development. This includes data transformation, model evaluation, and communication of results. You'll also work with customers, partners, and leaders to guide project decisions.
