Have you ever ordered a product on Amazon and when that box-with-the-smile arrives you wonder how it got to you so fast? Wondered where it came from and how much it cost Amazon? Wondered how Amazon designs its transportation network to scale and reliably deliver hundreds of millions of package to customer’s doorsteps? If so, Amazon’s Trans Systems Analytics (TSA) team is for you.

We use mathematical models, business analytics, algorithm design and statistics to improve decision-making capabilities across Operations and Amazon Logistics. Our objective is to create a reference for what the ideal transportation network looks like and build scalable audit mechanisms to assess and reduce the gap to the current network. We do so by treating system defects as gifts and solve anomalies in systems and their behavior to achieve business goals.

We are based out of the EU headquarters in Luxembourg and looking for a talented and motivated Senior Business Intelligence Engineer to innovate and enhance our outbound network optimization and management products. You will use data and critical thinking to drive alignment across senior leaders across organizations on your product vision and drive product roadmaps based on entitlement and automation benefits. This role is high visibility and cuts across all business functions.

- You drive strategic product communications across organizations providing clarity in decisions
- You have experience to develop scalable business intelligence solutions

In this job, you will:

- Identify business opportunities to expand, automate, or optimize Amazon’s Supply Chain
- Evaluate stakeholders expectations and contribute to the strategy, prioritize technical and operational initiatives

A day in the life
You are considered a technical expert on your team. You work efficiently to deliver the right things with limited guidance. Your work focuses on complex and/or ambiguous problem areas in existing or new BI initiatives. You take the long term view of your team's solutions and how they fit into the team’s architecture. You consider where each solution is in its lifecycle and where appropriate, proactively fix architecture deficiencies. You have a deep understanding of—and influence over—data lineage across the organization: including technical systems by which the data is generated; how metrics are aggregated; and how the resulting business intelligence is consumed, interpreted and acted upon by the business.

You use your expertise and knowledge of the business and its technologies to drive insightful discussions with customers and can anticipate—and influence—their future requirements. You understand that not all problems are new (or require new data BI solutions). You ensure your team’s BI solutions are accurate, timely, accessible and actionable. You show good judgment when making trade-offs between your team’s investment (e.g. team prioritization, data retention policy, infrastructure costs) and the business need. You are able to take the lead on large projects that require the work of multiple persons. You know how to divide a BI project into parallel work that can be performed by you and other data professionals and then reassembled successfully into a cohesive launch.

You understand capabilities and limitations of the systems you work with (e.g. cluster size, concurrent users, data classification). You are able to explain these limitations to technical and non-technical audiences, helping them understand what’s currently possible and which efforts need a technology investment (e.g., data pipeline doesn’t exist, report needs additional functionality, etc.). Your code submissions and analytics approach to work are exemplary. Your BI solutions are inventive, robust, scalable, extensible, and easy for others to maintain and build upon. You understand that not all problems are new (or require new BI solutions).

You are a key expert in business strategy. You take ownership of team infrastructure, providing a system-wide view and design guidance. You make things simpler. You drive BI engineering best practices (e.g. Operational Excellence, code reviews, syntax and naming convention, metric definitions, alarms) and set standards. You work to resolve the root cause(s) of pervasive or persistent problems; your efforts may unblock related teams. This may require you to influence decisions made by other teams. You build consensus; when confronted with discordant views, you are able to find the best path forward and influence others to follow that path. You actively recruit and help others leverage your expertise, by coaching and mentoring in your organization (or at your location). You contribute to the professional development of colleagues, improving their business and technical knowledge and their understanding of BI engineering best practices. You ensure your team is stronger because of your presence, but does not require your presence to be successful.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • We prioritize job seekers as our customers, unlike bigger job sites, by charging a small fee to provide them with curated access to the best companies and up-to-date jobs. This focus allows us to deliver a more personalized and effective job search experience.
  • Salaries for the engineering jobs on our site range from $100K-$200K. On average, senior engineer positions on our EchoJobs are about $160K.
  • The EchoJobs positions have been sourced and vetted from the top companies to work for in the US as a software engineer, including LinkedIn and other reputable job sites. We also have syndicated jobs from companies that have just raised funding, as well as those that have great unique products and culture. From all of these sources, our founder, Morgan, has also resourced the company's authenticity in terms of their website, public appearance, and more.
  • Yes, our users asked us for just this, so now our search filters allow you to search for your top jobs via location, as well as by onsite, remote, or both. Approximately 30% of our jobs are remote, so you’ve got the best options for you!
  • We have not yet implemented this option, but are considering doing so in the future. For the moment, you would need to cancel your subscription, and resubscribe when you wanted to come back.
  • We add new jobs to EchoJobs every day! We scan our sources for the newest jobs, verify them, and post them to EchoJobs within minutes. We add about 2,000-3,000 new jobs for you each day!
  • From starting your job search to getting hired, the entire job search process can take us software engineers anywhere between 3-6 months. However, at EchoJobs, we’re striving to shorten this duration by finding the best, newest jobs for you, so you can do less job searching, and more applying.
  • We’d recommend checking EchoJobs daily, as we add new jobs to the site each day. Additionally, if you got a chance to read our previous email on “what makes EchoJobs different from any other job search tools,” we also recommended that you set a job alert based on your job filters, so if you get emails on those new jobs, you could be checking more than once per day.
  • If you decide to continue with us after the 1-month trial, we definitely recommend this, as we all know it usually takes 3-6 months to find a quality job as a software engineer these days. So to best support you, we just adjusted our membership options at EchoJobs to monthly, 3 months, or 12 months (this option is more for passive job seekers looking a little bit for the future if they want to come back to work or make a job switch potentially. This lets you see what’s out there in case an even better fit job becomes available.)
  • EchoJobs is truly the only job site of its kind. We want to be THE spot for you to find the best job for you, and haven’t encountered any other company doing this. Other job sites are in niches besides software engineering or focus on a small portion of engineering jobs (like a specific coding language). In the words of Morgan, our founder, “I think what makes EchoJobs different is the amount of jobs, frequency that we add new jobs (we add 2,000-3,000 new jobs daily!), and the powerful search engines to find exactly the job you want more easily and efficiently. We can provide you with the most jobs that are vetted by us, we’ll continually find more new jobs for you, and we make it easier for you to apply and get hired.
