Software Development Engineer

- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
- 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
- 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location. As an SDE II, you'll design and deliver features that directly impact how Amazon makes critical business decisions. You'll work across our full technology stack—from feature-rich web portals where users create and manage workflows using templates, to APIs serving hundreds of active clients, to notification systems for real-time updates. You'll leverage AI technologies to improve customer experience, automate routine operations, and drive efficiency gains across the organization.

Key job responsibilities
Own Technical Delivery

Design and implement features for legal technology platforms including workflow automation, template systems, and advanced search
Take end-to-end ownership from design through deployment, maintaining 99.9% availability
Build secure, scalable solutions using AWS services and distributed systems
Instrument code with metrics to drive data-driven decisions
Build AI-driven features that reduce processing time and automate routine decisions
Leverage AI to Transform Operations

Collaborate and Grow
Partner with Legal, Finance, and business teams to solve workflow challenges
Mentor junior engineers and participate in code reviews
Learn from senior engineers and Principal Engineers through design reviews
Drive adoption of new capabilities across the organization

Operational Excellence
Participate in on-call rotations for 24/7 reliability
Monitor system health and respond to operational issues
Use metrics to identify improvement opportunities
Maintain systems built on NAWS infrastructure
