ADC Engineer III, AWS ADC RDS Commercial Engines

- 5+ years of systems administration experience Linux/Unix (Ubuntu, CentOS, RedHat, Solaris etc) in production environments.
- 3+ years of experience working with scripting languages.
- Experience with DNS, DHCP, SSH, HTTP, TCP/IP and other common network protocols
- Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret or above
- Proficiency in one or more scripting languages (Bash, Python, Ruby, Perl)
- Experience developing distributed service applications & developing user experiences scenarios
- Working experience and good understanding of the AWS environment, including VPC, EC2, EBS, S3, SQS, Cloud Formation and Lambda.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and identify the root cause of issues.
- A history of dealing well with ambiguity, prioritizing needs, and delivering measurable results in a dynamic environment.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $139,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $210,000/year in our highest geographic market. AWS is seeking a ADC Engineer [L5] to own and advance mission critical services in our Amazon Dedicated Clouds (ADC).

On a "typical" day, our engineers may dive deep to find the root cause of a customer issue, investigate why a metric is trending in the wrong direction, or discuss radical new approaches to automate operational processes. As a member of our team you will join a dedicated group of engineers who provide troubleshooting and operations support, and innovate to automate operational tasks.

You will be able to take a defined project, break down the work to help define milestones, and feedback mechanisms. You identify when implementations are not highly available or have defects; you investigate systemic patterns. You resolve, mitigate, or escalate operational concerns in a timely manner.

Key job responsibilities
You will work with systems and software engineers to create proactive engineering mechanisms that will enable your team to manage the health of a number of distributed specialized Linux server fleets and the software stacks that run on them. You are considered a technical leader for the team; and you will lead team scoping, work management, and prioritization discussions.

You will deploy and monitor the systems and automation to ensure that regional tooling is operating optimally. You will utilize trends and metrics to identify opportunities for improvements within existing frameworks, tools and processes to continuously improve systems.

A day in the life
The ADC DBS Relational team supports all RDS products and platforms in the ADC regions. Amazon RDS provides six familiar database engines to choose from: Amazon Aurora, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL and MariaDB.
