About the position

As a summer intern, you'll participate in our 12-week program at our Culver City office, where you'll work on a mix of sprint tasks with your team and a dedicated project. This experience will allow you to write high-quality, high-performance code, evaluate trade-offs, refine solutions, and address scope and scalability challenges. You'll have the chance to specialize in one of the following areas: Full Stack, Backend (Java), Frontend (React), Mobile - iOS, or Mobile - Android, preparing you for a full-time career. Whether you're supporting advisors, their clients, or internal developers, your contributions will make a meaningful impact and help shape the Altruist product.

What you’ll do

  • Participate in the entire lifecycle of large-scale, user-facing applications, from design and development to testing and deployment.
  • Collaborate within a cross-functional product team, including engineering, product management, design, and QA members.
  • Write, test, instrument, and deploy high-quality code with thorough test coverage, using modern frameworks and abstractions.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the business, industry, codebase, and technical systems.
  • Contribute to the innovation and continuous improvement of Altruist’s platform.
  • Learn key engineering architecture principles that support the team’s production features.
  • Document your experiences and insights throughout the internship.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a full-time Computer Science or related technical degree program, with an expected graduation in 2025 or 2026.
  • Interest in specializing in one of the following areas: Full Stack, Backend (Java), Frontend (React), Mobile - iOS, or Mobile - Android.
  • Strong foundation in software engineering, demonstrated through previous internship experience or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language (e.g., Python, Java).
  • Eager to build expertise in the financial domain and gain hands-on experience in the industry.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fluent in multiple programming languages, with a quick ability to learn new ones as needed (Java, TypeScript).
  • Hands-on experience working with both relational and NoSQL databases.
  • Knowledge of building client-side features using technologies like React, JavaScript, CSS, and HTML.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive, self-driven mindset.

Total compensation includes a competitive benefits package along with equity in the form of Stock Options (ISOs). A salary offer will be determined by a number of factors including experience, skill level, internal pay equity, geographic location, and other relevant business considerations. We review all employee pay and compensation programs regularly to ensure fair, equitable, and competitive pay. Base salaries will be reviewed at regular intervals throughout the year, typically in conjunction with performance review cycles.
