Job Description

Role

Are you a design engineer who has experience with mechanical and electrical design. Ideally you come from an automotive, motorsport or energy storage background and can demonstrate your mechanical skills and want to work in a fast-paced start up environment.

This is a unique opportunity to join a fast-growing London based start-up that is creating an all-new range of battery storage systems for both commercial and consumer markets. You will be responsible for design of our energy storage systems, liaising with our designer and engineers on the architecture layout.

You will be based at our West London, South Ruislip HQ.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical systems, products and components using computer-aided design (CAD) software within tight packaging constraints.
  • Development of Technical Specifications, ESOW’s and Targets (Programme level cascaded to component).
  • Choose and specify materials, components and equipment required for the project and create detailed CAD drawings.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and perform cost-benefit analyses to determine the viability of the design.
  • Identify and resolve design or manufacturing issues using CAD and analysis tools.
  • Provide schemes, final designs and release drawings aligned to project requirements.
  • Support the creation of RFQ/RFI documents & support supplier engagement.
  • Support engineering activities carried out by the suppliers/partners – Design/Development, Test/Validation, Manufacture.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to technicians and support the assembly and production of the first systems.
  • Facilitate the engineering release process from initial concept to finalised manufacturing drawings.
  • Lead the generation and maintenance of system and component level DFMEA’s.
  • Lead the development/management of DVP&R schedule.
  • Prepare and present technical presentations to suppliers and the team including any technical, concerns & timing.
  • Attend design reviews and support package and vehicle integration meetings as required.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and emerging technologies.

Qualifications

Must-haves

  • MEng degree in mechanical, electrical or automotive engineering.
  • Excellent CAD skills (SolidWorks preferred but not mandatory).
  • Excellent knowledge of materials, pressings, forming technologies, and advanced joining for volume manufacture plus additive processes for prototyping.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in a high level automotive/motorsport or another similar engineering environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of GD&T, drawing and assembly document creation.
  • Experienced in system/component delivery within an APQP or similar framework (FMEA, quality planning, PPAP etc.).
  • A basic understanding of High Voltage vehicle systems and safety.
  • Experience working with electrical and mechanical EV components.
  • Ability to work proactively with minimal support using a logical approach in an environment with minimal documented processes.
  • Must be self-motivated and an effective team player.
  • Eligible to work in the UK.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experienced in utilising FEA analysis – Review & Interpretation of results to inform architectural/ material changes to meet target.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of battery system technology including cell chemistries, BMS etc.
  • Workshop experience.
  • Fabrication and welding experience.
