Chief Product Officer (CPO) of Antibody-Powered Division (APD)

Location: Remote

Role Location: Waltham, MA (primary), with regular presence across Athens, GA and Cambridge, UK. Expect meaningful multi-site travel, including international.

The Company

We are Alloy Therapeutics—a biotechnology ecosystem company empowering the global scientific community to make better medicines together. Through a community of partners, we democratize access to pre-competitive tools, technologies, services, and company creation capabilities that are foundational for discovering and developing therapeutic biologics. The company facilitates affordable, non-exclusive access to the entire drug discovery community from academic scientists, small and medium biotech, to the largest biopharma. At Alloy, we believe our industry should compete on getting the best drugs to patients as quickly as possible, not exclusive access to the best platforms. As a reflection of our relentless commitment to the scientific community, we reinvest 100% of our revenue in innovation and access to innovation. MAY THE BEST DRUG WIN.

Alloy has evolved from a startup into a global biotechnology infrastructure company operating 11 divisions across 5 research sites in 4 countries on 3 continents. Our model - Integrated Independence - combines centralized capabilities with entrepreneurial operating divisions. Successful members thrive in our shared culture of accountability, deliberate trust, and open communication. As a team we aspire to work together to exceed expectations and collectively contribute across the global organization to always maintain our nimble, startup culture.

At Alloy, we have an ethos of “Mentorship-By-Apprenticeship” in all of our positions. We strive to have workers in the office when needed to interact organically and face-to-face. Of course, as a lab-based operation, our cells and animals grow 7 days a week, 365 days per year. We respect and value our colleagues for their hard work that requires them to be in the lab every day. We ask our people who have more flexible accommodations, like this position, to appreciate their colleagues who have less flexibility. We are all one team!

About the Role at Alloy Therapeutics
APD has built one of the most capable antibody discovery and engineering technology stacks in the industry. The Chief Product Officer is accountable for defining what APD sells, articulating why each offering wins in its market, and identifying where APD can expand and capture new demand using our existing technologies and defining new offerings in the future.

The CPO will report directly to the CEO of the Antibody Powered Division while working closely with team members in Business Development, Alliance Management, Scientific Leadership and Marketing to ensure APD’s capabilities are packaged, positioned, and delivered in ways that maximize customer value, competitive differentiation, and long-term downstream value share. This leader will hire and manage new team members to complement the existing resources already at Alloy.

Core Mission
Convert APD’s proven scientific and technological capabilities into a clearly defined, well-priced, well-positioned product portfolio and grow revenue by extending that portfolio into adjacent markets and applications it can already serve.

Key Responsibilities
  • Product Definition & Portfolio Architecture
    • Own the definition and roadmap for APD’s product and platform portfolio. The core deliverable is a defined product catalog in which every offering has a documented scope, specification, price, ideal customer profile, and competitive claim.
    • The current portfolio includes a product and technology stack of antibody discovery, engineering and validation modules.
  • Adjacent Expansion Within Existing Capability
    • Identify and build the case for new applications, modalities, customer segments, and packaging models that APD’s existing platforms can serve today.
  • Scientific Capability Packaging & Commercialization
    • Convert internal scientific capabilities into clearly defined service offerings, licensing packages, platform products, data products, and strategic partnership structures.
  • Building the Cross-Functional Product Development Capability
    • This role builds APD’s product organization into a focused professional team.
  • Customer & Partner Insight Leadership
    • Engage directly with biotech and pharma partners, strategic collaborators, KOLs, and industry experts
    • Translate customer feedback into product definition and roadmap decisions
    • Ensure APD offerings evolve with market demand rather than internal preference
  • Revenue & Growth Enablement
    • Accountability for divisional revenue growth, with direct ownership of the commercial architecture that drives it.

Leadership Expectations
  • Operate as an enterprise-level strategic leader on a divisional leadership team with direct interaction with Alloy Leadership
  • Bring structure and clarity to a highly technical, science-led environment
  • Bridge scientific depth with commercial practicality and be trusted by both sides
  • Hold a standardized product definition against pressure from science and BD to customize every engagement, while knowing which exceptions are worth making
  • Build scalable systems rather than one-off solutions
  • Balance ambition with operational discipline

Qualifications
Required experience:
  • 10+ years in biotechnology, pharma, biologics, life science tools, or platform technology companies
  • Demonstrated success taking a services or platform business from custom, project-based work to a defined catalog with published pricing. This transition is the core of the role; candidates who have led it once understand the internal resistance involved.
  • Experience building or substantially scaling a product function, including hiring and org design
  • Ownership of pricing and packaging decisions, not solely input into them
  • Strong working understanding of biologics discovery and development workflows
Preferred Experience:
  • Antibody discovery, engineering, or therapeutics
  • Bispecific and multispecific engineering
  • AI-enabled drug discovery
  • Transgenic animal platforms
  • CRO, CDMO, or platform biotech business models
  • Strategic partnerships and licensing, including milestone and royalty structures

Critical Competencies
Commercial
  • Sharp market intuition and a defensible point of view on where a business can win
  • Ability to price, package, and position technical offerings against real competitors
  • Experience partnering with and enabling business development and marketing organizations
Product & Operational
  • Portfolio management and product lifecycle discipline
  • Data-driven prioritization under incomplete information
  • Cross-functional leadership without direct authority over delivery
Scientific & Technical
Scientific fluency is the credibility threshold for this role rather than its primary requirement. The successful candidate must be able to:
  • Hold a substantive technical conversation with antibody discovery scientists and pharma partners
  • Synthesize complex technical concepts into product definition and market claims
  • Reason about developability, manufacturability, and translational considerations
