Job Title: Senior Data Warehouse (DWH) Developer – Azure Synapse

Experience Level

6–8 years of hands-on data warehouse development experience, with strong expertise in Azure Synapse Dedicated SQL Pool.

Role Overview

The Senior DWH Developer will be responsible for implementing and maintaining Gold layer data warehouse objects in Azure Synapse Dedicated SQL Pool. This role focuses on building performance-optimized tables, views, and stored procedures, and implementing Silver → Gold transformations to support BI, reporting, and data sharing use cases.
The developer will work under the guidance of the DWH Architect and collaborate closely with ETL and BI teams.

Key Responsibilities

Synapse Development

  • Develop Synapse Dedicated SQL Pool objects including:
    • Tables
    • Views
    • Stored procedures
  • Implement Gold layer schemas as per architectural standards.
  • Manage schema changes and deployments.

Silver → Gold Transformations

  • Implement ELT transformations from Silver layer to Gold layer using T-SQL.
  • Apply business rules and aggregation logic for reporting.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and reconciliation.

Performance & Query Optimization

  • Develop high-performance T-SQL optimized for MPP execution.
  • Apply appropriate distribution, indexing, and partitioning strategies.
  • Tune queries to support BI and reporting workloads.

Reporting & Data Sharing

  • Support reporting teams with optimized SQL views and datasets.
  • Implement Azure Data Share mappings for external data consumers.
  • Develop downstream export logic and data extracts as required.

Testing & Operations

  • Perform data validation and reconciliation checks.
  • Support production deployments and issue resolution.
  • Follow coding standards and version control best practices.

Required Skills & Experience

Experience

  • 6–8 years of experience in data warehouse development.
  • Strong experience building Gold layer warehouses in MPP environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Synapse Dedicated SQL Pool.

Technical Skills

  • Strong proficiency in T-SQL.
  • Hands-on experience with Synapse Dedicated SQL Pool.
  • Experience developing views and stored procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of performance tuning in MPP systems.
  • Experience with ELT-based data transformations.
  • Familiarity with data sharing and downstream export patterns.

Tools & Practices

  • Experience with SQL deployment and version control.
  • Familiarity with SQL pipelines or orchestration tools.
  • Strong data validation and testing skills.

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently on complex SQL workloads.
  • Good collaboration and communication skills.

Nice to Have

  • Experience supporting Power BI or enterprise reporting tools.
  • Exposure to Azure Data Share and external data distribution.
  • Experience working in large-scale enterprise data programs.
