Job Description

Every day, we get opportunities to make a positive impact – on our colleagues, partners, customers, and society. Together, we’re pioneering the solutions of the future and unlocking the full potential of precious resources. Trusted to act on initiative, we challenge conventional thinking to develop world-leading technologies that inspire progress in vital areas, including energy, food, water, and shipping.

As we push forward, the innovative, open spirit that fuels our 140-year-old start-up culture and rapid growth also drives our personal growth. So, as we shape a more resourceful, less wasteful world, we build our careers too.

About the job

In this role, you will help ensure that the systems and computing environments supporting Alfa Laval’s engineering work are available, secure, reliable and easy to use. Supporting approximately 300 CAE users globally, you will work with the Specialist CAE, IT Infrastructure, PLM and CAD teams to maintain and improve the technical environment used by our engineering organization.

The role combines user support, infrastructure administration and continuous improvement, including contributing to Alfa Laval’s Red Hat Enterprise Linux-based cluster with Slurm as the workload manager. You will handle both day-to-day support and longer-term improvements, and may occasionally need to provide support outside regular office hours when urgent system incidents or critical planned activities require it.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to CAE users
  • Investigate user needs and help identify effective technical solutions
  • Manage the installation, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of CAE-related applications.
  • Support and maintain Linux-based computing environments

  • Help ensure systems are secure, stable and up to date
  • Create and maintain scripts to automate tasks and improve efficiency
  • Analyze recurring problems and recommend improvements that reduce incidents and improve user experience.
  • Collaborate with users, IT teams and other technical specialists

This position is based in either Lund or Flemingsberg and reports to the Manager Operations Applications & Infrastructure.

Who are you

You are a curious and solution-oriented professional who enjoys learning and understanding the technical challenges behind users’ needs. You bring structure to problem solving, remain service-minded when supporting others and communicate clearly with both users and colleagues. You work collaboratively, share knowledge and contribute to a positive and effective technical environment.

What you know

You bring extensive experience supporting technical users and maintaining infrastructure in environments where system availability, reliability and performance are important. To succeed in this role, you have:

  • At least 10 years of professional experience in similar systems support, infrastructure engineering, Linux administration or technical operations role.
  • Excellent technical knowledge of Linux, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
  • Experience creating and maintaining scripts in one or more of the following:
    • Linux shell
    • PowerShell
    • Windows batch/CMD
    • Python
  • Experience installing, configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting software applications and operating systems.
  • An interest in understanding technical challenges from the user’s perspective and translating user needs into effective technical solutions.
  • A university level Engineering degree

It is an advantage if you have experience with

  • Software licence management.
  • Active Directory.
  • Out-of-band management.
