Description

About Alethea

Founded in 2019, Alethea is a tech company that detects and mitigates instances of disinformation and social media manipulation to help clients navigate the new digital reality. We protect clients from the threat of disinformation that targets brands, reputations, employee safety, or financial bottom lines through our industry-leading investigation and remediation services.

Position Summary

The Data Science & Machine Learning team is responsible for developing the models, metrics, and infrastructure needed to detect, assess, and mitigate disinformation, manipulation, and other online harms. We do so by sifting signals of harmful actors, behavior, and content from large, cross-platform datasets and surfacing insights to users in Artemis, Alethea’s platform for monitoring social media manipulation at scale.

We are seeking experienced machine learning engineers to join our growing DS & ML team. As a machine learning engineer, you will lead the deployment, monitoring, and evaluation of machine learning models designed to detect actors, behavior, and content associated with disinformation. You will work closely with applied scientists to develop production-ready models and the infrastructure needed to easily and seamlessly integrate them with Artemis. You will be instrumental in ensuring the scalability and efficiency of our machine learning solutions, and ensuring that we can scale our platform to meet customer needs. Along with fellow machine learning engineers and applied scientists, you will institute processes, tools, and workflows to ensure that data and machine learning is used in a responsible, reliable, and reproducible manner across the company.

Responsibilities

  • Engineer, deploy, and evaluate advanced machine learning models for detecting, assessing, and mitigating actors, behavior, and content associated with disinformation
  • Partner with applied scientists to refine model prototypes, prepare them for a production setting, and integrate them seamlessly into our platform
  • Monitor models post-deployment to ensure their effectiveness and mitigate issues like model drift
  • Design scalable machine learning infrastructure in collaboration with data engineers, cloud architects, and engineering leadership
  • Contribute to the development of the DS & ML team’s processes, workflows, tech stack, norms, and culture
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior members of the DS & ML team

Skills & Experience

A degree in a quantitative or technical field, or equivalent work experience

  • Significant experience deploying scalable machine learning solutions in a production environment
  • Significant experience serving machine learning models using technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and Ray
  • Significant experience using Python, including use of modern data science and machine learning packages and frameworks
  • Experience with observability tools such as Grafana or Prometheus for tracking model performance and resource usage
  • Experience with SQL and architecting data schemas

You may also have

  • Experience with a statistical or machine learning specialty, such as NLP, computer vision, or network science
  • Experience designing and implementing infrastructure for online and active learning
  • Experience addressing online harms, such as disinformation, coordinated inauthentic behavior, manipulated media, calls to violence, algorithmic manipulation, or hate speech

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary and stock options are negotiated based on experience.
  • Healthcare at the gold-tier level, dental, and vision is fully funded by the employer. 50% of dependent coverage is provided by the employer.  Additional benefits include employer provided life and AD&D insurance and an Employee Assistance Program with a variety of services, including generous Mental Wellbeing support.
  • Flexible vacation, sick leave, including office closure between Christmas and New Year’s, and extended holidays at Thanksgiving and the 4th of July.
  • Employees may also participate in an Employer sponsored 401k, after their 6-month anniversary, with a 3% match. Health Savings (HSAs) and flexible spending accounts (FSAs) are also offered.
  • Hybrid work environment, with 3 days per week required in office in Washington, D.C or New York.

The salary range for this position is $175,750 to $214,200 per year, depending on the candidate’s skills, experience, and qualifications.   In addition to cash compensation, this role is eligible for a stock option grant. Further, we offer comprehensive benefits, including flexible PTO, health, dental and vision plans, and generous company holidays.  From time to time, employees may also be provided with opportunities for professional growth, development, and advancement.

Alethea is an equal opportunity employer that encourages people of all backgrounds, genders, ethnicities, abilities, and sexual orientations to apply. We are committed to being an inclusive place to work, while maintaining a workforce that represents the communities we serve.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • We prioritize job seekers as our customers, unlike bigger job sites, by charging a small fee to provide them with curated access to the best companies and up-to-date jobs. This focus allows us to deliver a more personalized and effective job search experience.
  • Salaries for the engineering jobs on our site range from $100K-$200K. On average, senior engineer positions on our EchoJobs are about $160K.
  • The EchoJobs positions have been sourced and vetted from the top companies to work for in the US as a software engineer, including LinkedIn and other reputable job sites. We also have syndicated jobs from companies that have just raised funding, as well as those that have great unique products and culture. From all of these sources, our founder, Morgan, has also resourced the company's authenticity in terms of their website, public appearance, and more.
  • Yes, our users asked us for just this, so now our search filters allow you to search for your top jobs via location, as well as by onsite, remote, or both. Approximately 30% of our jobs are remote, so you’ve got the best options for you!
  • We have not yet implemented this option, but are considering doing so in the future. For the moment, you would need to cancel your subscription, and resubscribe when you wanted to come back.
  • We add new jobs to EchoJobs every day! We scan our sources for the newest jobs, verify them, and post them to EchoJobs within minutes. We add about 2,000-3,000 new jobs for you each day!
  • From starting your job search to getting hired, the entire job search process can take us software engineers anywhere between 3-6 months. However, at EchoJobs, we’re striving to shorten this duration by finding the best, newest jobs for you, so you can do less job searching, and more applying.
  • We’d recommend checking EchoJobs daily, as we add new jobs to the site each day. Additionally, if you got a chance to read our previous email on “what makes EchoJobs different from any other job search tools,” we also recommended that you set a job alert based on your job filters, so if you get emails on those new jobs, you could be checking more than once per day.
  • If you decide to continue with us after the 1-month trial, we definitely recommend this, as we all know it usually takes 3-6 months to find a quality job as a software engineer these days. So to best support you, we just adjusted our membership options at EchoJobs to monthly, 3 months, or 12 months (this option is more for passive job seekers looking a little bit for the future if they want to come back to work or make a job switch potentially. This lets you see what’s out there in case an even better fit job becomes available.)
  • EchoJobs is truly the only job site of its kind. We want to be THE spot for you to find the best job for you, and haven’t encountered any other company doing this. Other job sites are in niches besides software engineering or focus on a small portion of engineering jobs (like a specific coding language). In the words of Morgan, our founder, “I think what makes EchoJobs different is the amount of jobs, frequency that we add new jobs (we add 2,000-3,000 new jobs daily!), and the powerful search engines to find exactly the job you want more easily and efficiently. We can provide you with the most jobs that are vetted by us, we’ll continually find more new jobs for you, and we make it easier for you to apply and get hired.
