Research Scientist

Team: Impact Analytics

The Research Scientist will guide intervention strategy and development, evaluate the impact of Aledade’s population health interventions, and use innovative methods to answer pressing business questions. 

The Research Scientist will design and conduct analyses that leverage rich data sources including national Medicare claims, other payer claims, electronic health records, event notification, and patient-reported data. 

They will work across teams to understand key performance and policy questions facing the business and bring data to inform strategic and tactical decision making. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in healthcare analytics, an understanding of population health strategies, and a passion for having a direct impact on primary care practices and contributing to a data-driven organization.

Primary Duties

    1. Identify analysis priorities:

      1. Lead efforts with teams across Aledade to proactively identify and clarify important strategic and tactical questions for data analysis and experiments.

    2. Design and execute analysis projects:

      1. Design descriptive, predictive, and/or causal inference statistical analyses for large scale projects and complex business questions.

      2. Design and program code to integrate, evaluate, and analyze diverse data sources.

      3. Perform data analysis and statistical modeling to generate actionable insights and solutions. 

      4. Supervise junior colleagues in programming and model implementation for small scale projects.

    3. Translate and communicate analysis results:

      1. Lead efforts across teams at Aledade to synthesize results from complex analyses, identify implications of analysis results and translate findings into action.

      2. Lead and supervise development and presentation of analytic products that accurately communicate insights from the data and inspire action. 

      3. Work closely with engineering and other product partners to enable analytic solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree and 8+  years of relevant experience. 

    • Advanced degree may substitute for some experience.

Preferred KSA’s

    • Masters or PhD in health services research, mathematics/statistics, epidemiology, biostatistics, econometrics, computer science or related field.

    • Excellent quantitative analysis abilities, grounded in econometrics, health services research, epidemiology, statistics, or related field.

    • Experience with causal inference methods including designing and/or conducting experimental and quasi-experimental studies (e.g., randomized trials; regression discontinuity, difference-in-differences, instrumental variables, and matched designs).

    • Experience with SQL for data manipulation and R, Python, or Stata for statistical programming.

    • Experience with healthcare data sources such as medical or pharmacy claims, electronic health record, event notification, clinical, and patient reported data, and working in a complex enterprise data warehouse.

    • Knowledge of standard methods for measuring health care utilization, spending, quality, and related outcomes.

    • Experience navigating complex data environments and working with messy data.

    • Ability to manage research projects through the entire life cycle, from design through implementation, documentation, and presentation of findings.

    • Experience using AI tools for programming and project management.

    • Demonstrated ability to conduct nuanced analyses to produce accurate and unbiased results and tell the story of those results in data visualizations, presentations, and reports.

    • Experience working with product and engineering teams to deliver data and actionable insights to clients and vendors.

    • Attention to detail, particularly with version control (e.g. Git), quality assurance, documentation, and building repeatable processes.

    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage competing deadlines and priorities.

    • Values people with differing backgrounds and perspectives; supports effective interpersonal and intercultural engagement.

    • Well-versed in Equity and Inclusion language, concepts, and principles (i.e. health disparities, social drivers of health, implicit bias) and able to communicate and explain them to larger audiences.

    • Committed to serving teammates and patients with empathy and respect.

    • Thinks beyond their immediate team and contributes to making Aledade holistically better (active engagement in employee resource groups, DE&I initiatives, book/journal clubs, facilitating training, leading roundtables, etc.).

  • Sitting for prolonged periods of time. Extensive use of computers and keyboard. Occasional walking and lifting may be required.
