Are you passionate about electrical systems, automation, and complex industrial projects? As a Senior Regional Electrical Project Engineering Specialist, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of major capital projects across multiple industrial operations. In this role, you will help shape engineering excellence by influencing technical decisions, strengthening standards, and driving project success throughout the project lifecycle. This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on the future of our operations and capital investments.
About the Role
Reporting to the Regional Capital Projects Engineering Manager, you will serve as the senior technical authority and trusted partner for project managers, site teams, engineering firms, and subject matter experts. You will help ensure the quality, consistency, and technical maturity of capital projects while supporting critical decisions from project definition through phase-gate readiness. Your expertise will be particularly valuable in electrical systems, industrial controls, automation, combustion systems, and safety-related integrations.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the senior technical advisor for electrical, automation, controls, and multidisciplinary integration challenges within capital projects.
- Define and validate project scopes, design criteria, electrical and controls interfaces, and required deliverables throughout the FEL process.
- Participate in project reviews, design reviews, risk assessments, value engineering workshops, and phase-gate decisions to support effective project execution.
- Challenge technical solutions, estimates, schedules, execution strategies, and vendor proposals to ensure safe, reliable, and business-aligned outcomes.
- Ensure the successful integration of combustion systems, control logic, safety interlocks, critical instrumentation, and commissioning requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by developing engineering standards, integrating lessons learned, and enhancing engineering firm governance and KPI review processes.
What You Bring to the Role
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automated Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, combined with membership in the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (or eligibility).
- Minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant experience in electrical engineering, automation, industrial controls, industrial projects, or capital project environments.
- Significant experience working with engineering firms, multidisciplinary projects, and heavy industrial operations.
- Practical knowledge of industrial combustion systems, including instrumentation, electrical interfaces, control systems, and associated safety systems.
- Strong understanding of FEL processes, engineering deliverables, and capital project governance, along with the ability to influence decisions without direct authority.
- Strong commitment to safety, regulatory compliance, risk management, and machine safety practices.
- Functional bilingualism (French and English), both spoken and written, is required due to the nature of the position and interactions with English-speaking partners, clients, or colleagues.
Interactions with
- PMs – Regional and site Project Managers;
- CPMs – Site Capital Project Managers (6);
- Internal project stakeholders including Reliability, Electrical Maintenance, Automation, Instrumentation, Operations, Process Engineering (SME), Health & Safety (HSE), and Environmental teams;
