About the Role

We’re looking for an Engineer who’s eager to make a real impact in the world of AI and help multiple teams at Alation use AI to realize higher productivity and efficiency. You’ll be part of a small team that will design and build AI agentic applications powered by Alation’s data, in short iterations and make them available to multiple departments within the company.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys full-stack coding, working with LLMs from OpenAI and Anthropic, and learning how to turn ideas into real-world systems. This position offers immense ownership and significant business influence, focused on delivering a future vision that provides genuine value for our users. 

What You’ll Do

• Understand and work with internal data warehouses as well as other business applications such as Salesforce. 

• Develop and monitor robust data pipelines for agent workflows, owning data validation, quality checks, and pipeline reliability.

• Work with a Product Manager and Engineering Manager to design and iterate agentic solutions quickly.

• Build purposeful AI Agents: Work with modern LLM and agent frameworks (e.g., LangChain, Pydantic-AI) — evaluate, benchmark, and refine performance.

• Build AI-powered applications: Develop agentic systems that combine structured data, language models, and workflow to solve real-world problems.

• Code with care: Write clean, well-structured Python and TypeScript code for integrations, pipelines, and intelligent systems.

What You Need:

• Proven track record with at least two years writing and deploying production-grade software.

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science or similar discipline

• Working understanding of LLMs or AI system development — from prompting to evaluation.

• Hands-on experience working SQL and relational data; familiarity with tools like Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift is a plus.

• Ideal candidates bring deep curiosity about the data itself, including what it means, how it is used, and why it matters.

• Understanding of building data pipelines and ETL using dbt, FiveTran or custom Python code.

• Interest in working across the full lifecycle — from problem framing and prototyping to testing and deployment.

• Clear communication skills and an ability to collaborate with both engineers and non-technical teams.

• A growth mindset — you like learning new frameworks, exploring ideas, and solving open-ended problems.
