Are you currently a technical lead aspiring to be an Engineering Manager?

Alation is seeking a talented and highly technical Engineering Manager to join our well-established teams in Bangalore and Chennai, India. The ideal candidate will communicate fearlessly to build trust. We need leaders who take active roles in shaping the future of engineering while embodying our core values.

What does the Connector team do?

The Connector team is an integral part of Alation Engineering as it is responsible for developing a foundational framework that enables Alation and its partners to build Open Connector Framework (OCF) Connectors essential for Alation to connect to and extract metadata from various data sources that the customers want to catalog in Alation. This team is also responsible for providing a seamless User experience around connectivity. The Alation Connector team owns and manages 60+ connectors across different data source types (RDBMS, BI Sources, File Systems, NoSQL sources)

Connector teams are the core of the Alation platform and own data pipelines that integrate, extract, and ingest metadata. We are reimagining how we deliver connectivity on the Alation platform through new frameworks, re-designed modular pipelines, and partnerships to accelerate time to market at scale.

What you'll do:

  • Partner with your product managers and technical leads to initiate cross-functional collaboration with development teams throughout Alation to gather feedback and requirements.
  • Seek diverse perspectives to drive bottom-up innovation and create buy-in from all technical stakeholders inside and outside the team.
  • Develop, manage, and set the operational vision for OCF
  • Drive the short- and long-term direction for our OCF  teams. Think holistically to ensure the team fully understands its goals and objectives.
  • Work hands-on with engineering from diverse geographical locations
  • Work on triaging Support escalations actively to unblock customers.

You should have:

  • A Bachelors/Masters in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
  • Previously managed a team of 5+ engineers with responsibility for systems in production as a tech lead or a manager for at least 2+ years
  • An expert technical understanding of the intersection of development, connectivity to data sources
  • You are a hands on technical leader of your team and understand all aspects of your team charter and deliverables
  • Knowledge of building applications in Java, Python, golang, and any front-end technologies and operationalising services in K8s is desirable.
  • Experience taking product and solution to production and supporting them
  • Collaboration skills and work with teams to maintain and identify requirements for improved 
  • Previous experience as a tech lead architecting, developing, and shipping software products and/or services with a distributed backend
  • Experience providing technical mentorship and training to engineers building distributed systems
  • Experience managing multi-site teams and times zones is very desirable
  • Preferably, you have experience integrating systems with high throughput and have scaled systems in an Agile development environment
  • Passion for writing and delivering clean and well-tested code, participating in code reviews and always thinking about how to make products easy to support and maintain
  • Passion for elegance and simplicity
  • Pride in designing solutions that will outlive the problem.
